How long has this been here? How'd I miss it? Ah well disregarding that...

Greetings, to thee, my fellow mortals. I have very little to say about myself, other then that I am myself. I don't know. Anyways, a while ago I saw a post on reddit.com/r/fireemblem regarding a Fire Emblem role play that was taking place here, and so I made an account here and joined in said RP.

Yeah, nothing too impressive about me. Still don't know how I missed doing this. Please don't kill me. :<

Well, I think we're all vaguely aware of your Existence, but general Warnings — Crystal now owns your Soul (if you have one), the resident Dinosaur will send you her Greetings in the Morning, and everything is Cata's Fault.

Oh, sorry. We'll have you shipped down the the GRL post haste. The reconstitution should not be unpleasant. In fairness, the autosnipes are programmed to request proper identification first.

And here I am! I was a bit confused when I saw this thread. I thought, I'm sure this guy hasn't only just arrived. I see I was correct. :P

Anyway, greetings from the other side of the pond. Great to see you here. I hope you're enjoying your time with us so far and continue to do so. Looks like Klarth, sorry, Albert (I always use his old screen name) has completed the induction formalities and Zeth has the security hiccup under control. I look forward to continue to seeing you around.

The automated security department prefers the term hiccough, for reasons...probably best left unsaid.

Interestingly enough —

The OED wrote:
Hickop , hiccup , appears, from its date, to be a variation of the earlier hickock , hicket n. q.v. Hiccough was a later spelling, apparently under the erroneous impression that the second syllable was cough, which has not affected the received pronunciation, and ought to be abandoned as a mere error.

I, however, prefer the -ough Spelling myself — it is far prettier.

Hiccup is cute, and actually kind of sounds like one.

"Hiccough" is horrendously ugly IMHO. Why the department prefers it is beyond my knowledge.

Well, I acknowledge that it implies the Pronunciation /'hɪ.kou/ or /hɪ'kou/...

I don't know that "hic" would change the ending of "cough" though, which implies "hikkoff" as a more sensible pronunciation, which sounds ugly as well.

I was going for the general Values of the Spellings (I tend to read -ough as in 'though', though I suppose it can equally-well be read as in 'plough'), though 'Hiccoff' is, I suppose, very much implicit morphologically.

"Hiceau" and "Hicow" are also kind of weird pronunciations. Not that the English language isn't rife with words that are pronounced weirdly.
