I like Pat Benatar, Queen, Green Day, Barry Manilow, and many others. There are so many I cant name them all.

I used to like, Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, N*Sync, and things of that nature. So glad I am out of that phase!

Okay here it comes... again...

Artists
Dream Theater: Everyone here probably knows I practically worship the ground they walk on... Some of the greatist musical minds of our age, they effortlessly blend aspects of rock/metal, folk, and classical musical styles. Although their singer isn't the most attractive voice I've ever heard... But he fits the style, mostly (I recommend not judging them by any live performances you may hear). The guitarist, drummer, keybordist, and bassist are some of the most technically proficiant musicians ever. Although you better be prepared for some lengthy instrumental breaks.

Nightwish: An interesting blend of a death metal psycho guy, and an beautiful-voiced operetic type, complete with a combination of symphonic and metal instrumentation. You may have to hear it to believe it, but they're actually great. What gets me is that the scarey death-growl guy can actually sing... and well... (Go listen to "The Islander", then go listen to "Tenth Man Down". It's the same guy; I kid you not...)

Dragon Force: They're a pretty good band, although most of their songs sound nearly the same. Their two guitarists are pretty scarey though (they are speed metal; you have to be pretty good). Most of their songs have a nice, uplifting feel to them, especially the choruses, but some of the lyrics can be a bit... violent. It's like opening up a good fantasy book, shoving it in a blender, and pouring it into your head through your ears.

Liquid Tension Experiment: An instrumental offshoot of Dream Theater, but a significantly different style of music. Here they display pure instrumental prowess with some of the most addicting songs I've ever heard. Although to like them, you need to be able to enjoy sitting through a 5-minute instumental (at the least...)

Kansas: I like them a lot, but I'm not obsessive over them. They have a kinda progressive rock feel to them, which I like, and their lyrics aren't half bad.

Indigo Girls: They're a kinda female folk-rock band thingy. Their singers have pretty good voices, and they have some pretty addictive songs, but so far, I don't understand what a word of any of their lyrics mean...

Styx: Styx is awesome! Their music is kinda hard to describe... Let's just call it rock... Aaanyway, I love most of their songs, and that's all that really matters...

Trans-Siberian Orchestra: This is what you get when you combine Beethoven and metal: one of the greatest creations mankind has ever thought of. The feel of the ingenuity of those classical composers, but with the timbre of a metal band.

Queen: Hmmm... They are a hard band to describe... Although I'm sure (hopefully) you all know who they are already. They are random, unconvetional, unique, and awesome! (And the fact that Nickleback nearly overtook them in the epic battle... You people...)

Hmm... I know I'm probably forgetting someone, but I'm getting kind of tired...

Nightwish doesn't have death metal vocals. Marco Hietala's vocals are often on the rough side and he does scream, but those are not death metal vocals, or even close. :|

My favorite bands and artists:

Queen - Glam rock, hard rock, heavy metal, progressive rock, pop (UK)
Alcest - Shoegaze, black metal (France)
Joy Division - Post-punk (UK)
Paysage d'Hiver - Black metal, dark ambient (Switzerland)
Dead Can Dance - New age, world music (Australia)
Burzum - Black metal, ambient (Norway)
Ulver - Black metal, neofolk, ambient, experimental, avant-garde (Norway)
Elend - Neoclassical, ambient (France)
Deathspell Omega - Black metal (France)
Swans - No wave, post-punk, industrial, ambient, art rock, post-rock (USA)
Tenhi - Neofolk, ambient (Finland)
Agalloch - Doom metal, black metal, neofolk, ambient (USA)
Peste Noire - Black metal (France)
Hammock - Post-rock, ambient, shoegaze (USA)
Shining - Black metal (Sweden)
Current 93 - Neofolk, dark ambient, industrial, experimental (UK)
Empyrium - Doom metal, black metal, neofolk (Germany)
David Bowie - Glam rock, art rock (UK)
Beck - Hip-hop, alternative rock (USA)
Jeff Buckley - Alternative rock, singer-songwriter (USA)
Neil Young - Folk rock, hard rock, singer-songwriter (Canada)

Yeah.. I guess you're right... Death metal sounds more like you're hacking up a hairball than anything, and Hietala at least still retains a bit of melody and enunciation...

I also like Susan Tedeschi. As long as everyone else is being so specific...

As I am terrible at identifying genres, I'm just going with whatever iTunes thinks it is.

Savage Garden- Pop/Soft rock, Australia.
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones- Country/Jazz/Bluegrass (iTunes can't make up its mind), USA.
Matchbox Twenty- Rock, USA.
YUI- Rock/Pop, Japan.
Fall Out Boy- Rock, USA.
Anna Nalick- Pop, USA.
Sting- Rock, England.

I should probably list my favorite albums as well:

Octavarium (Dream Theater): I love all the symbolism and music theory that went into the creation of this album. There are eight songs written in progressively higher keys, moving from F minor to G minor to A minor to B minor to C minor to D minor to E minor back to F minor, falling in with the whole "Full Circle" theme. There's also numerous references to the golden ratio in the artwork and songs themself. It's my favorite concept album out there; it's pretty cool...

Images and Words (Dream Theater): This album has some of the best songs EVER (IMO), although no deep, hidden meanings behind its production.

Scenes from a Memory (Dream Theater... Again): This album is actually a continuation of one of the songs on Images and Words (Metropolis Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper to be specific). It's a story of love, murder, and mystery complete with your typical Shakesperian love triangle and reincarnated detective. C'mon, it's got it's own overture; it's got to be great!

Suspended Animation (John Petrucci): An awesome instumental album by my favorite musician ever...
