As for bad Films, I saw an Adaptation of Beowulf a few Years ago, which was quite horrible.

Yeah that really was quite awful.

Yeah Sci-Fi originals chronically suffer. Then again, Sci-Fi in general has sorta been on a downwards trend since their last big administrative shakeup back what, 2002, 2003, something like that. It doesn't seem to show any signs of turning around and being anything other than a very slow terminal sort of thing. And I'm not just saying that because it's the administration who began their reformatting of the network by cancelling Farscape because of creatively manipulated numbers.

I think SyFy quite obviously telegraphed their downfall when they sent out a press release blatantly insulting their entire target audience and basically saying that they wanted to move away from science fiction.

I used to refuse to call them SyFy because it was such a stupid name, but now I do, because they deserve it.

I prefer "The Syphilis Channel", in reference to that Penny Arcade strip.

Apparently the channel's international counterparts didn't adopt the new name in a number of countries precisely because SyFy was instantly associated with syphilis.

You know your channel has a bad name when people associate it with a disease. But yes, the movies on there are terrible...

Having arrived late to the party, Cata already took mine: The Room. Everything he said and more.
Another hilariously bad movie is Vampire's Kiss, a 1988 comedy horror flick starring Nic Cage. It is self-aware to a point, but not nearly enough to account for all the terrible but delectable decisions made during the making of that film. About half the footage from this is from that movie.

That reminds me of another Cage Film I disliked — Knowing, perhaps because I am tired of hearing about the End of the World...

There are plenty of Cage films on my list of bad movies to watch: The Wicker Man, Face-Off, Zandalee, and one I just heard about today--Drive Angry.

He just doesn't know how to say no. I don't know how many of you guys have seen this, but I think it's pretty accurate.

Anyway, getting off the Cage train, other terrible movies I've seen... I saw Dino posted about Plan 9 From Outer Space, and a bunch of the terribleness of that film has to do with the making of. They cast Bela Lugosi in it, but he died during filming. So then the director got Lugosi's dentist (IIRC) to take on the role, but the dentist didn't look anything like Lugosi, he wasn't even close to the same height. So, he didn't say any more lines and held his cape in front of his face the whole time.

My sister Rhi has a thing for Bad Horror Films. I genuinely believed I understood what a Bad Film was until I spent a week with her.

There really was no idea these directors would turn down. Serial killer clown, sure. Clown serial killer, alright. Serial killer baby, can't go wrong there. Haunted serial killer video game, yes please. Face-stealing serial killer witch? Jackpot!

The worst offender had to be the one about The Clown Who Was A Serial Killer, in which a murderous psychopath hid in the yard watching teens party until one came outside so he could stab them to death. Before long, people would notice someone was missing and would come outside to get stabbed to death. This repeated ad nauseum.

Wait... Did they even think of calling the cops after a few of them disappeared?

Nah, their response was always 'we'd better go investigate'.

I remember when that first came out, and I had to show eeeeeverybody. I think the concept must be that if he makes enough movies, even if some are bad he has to hit some winners.

Maybe he just values quantity over quality.

Or maybe he's got a massive debt to pay off. To the Mafia, or something.

Well, Zeth has a point. Not every movie of his is terrible. The National Treasure movies, for instance, by far aren't the best, but aren't the worst either. I rather liked his performance in Lord of War.

That said, I rather enjoy the idea of Nic Cage being in debt to the Mafia. Gives a whole new spin to "I'll make him an offer he can't refuse."

Also, at the risk of getting totally off topic...
