I voted don't know/don't care, because, honestly, I'd never even tried to access the adult forum until a few minutes ago, which, obviously, means I overlooked this thread until now. But the only reason I tried was out of plain curiosity about what people might talk about in there. Like I believe Ute said, if we were to keep the adult forum, I'd simply treat it like any other, popping my head in and posting in any topics I have something to say about. That said, it wouldn't matter to me one way or the other if the forum existed.

Look, all of this is well and good, and certainly in keeping a good faith policy, but I would have to point out that having an Adult Forum is rather a redundancy when looking at the rest of the site. Topics of an adult nature already happen in what is known as the Symposium. We have pictorial outlets for users who want that, (barring porn or questionable material as it is currently frowned upon in the boards themselves).

What you are doing by voting for an adult forum of a kind is making yourselves look like hypocrites in a dictionarial definition of the term and you ultimately lose credibility on the whole because in the very rules of this site and on the front page you are basically saying that the site as a whole is for everyone, and that questionable material and porn (two different things) is already frowned upon, as stated above. Having an adult forum within this particular construct basically negates any rules you already have set forth for the common people and its members and will force you to have to rewrite those rules just to justify having the forum here in the first place. Which will force the loos of credibility because now you have changed your stance on what is considered an adult forum and what is allowed in said forum. My opinion on this matter purely, but I don't think anyone has really thought this completely through on any level.

The site as a whole is for everyone, just as the right to vote is for everyone... as soon as they turn 18, register and/or become citizens. You're making an argument on a very fine point of diction, and one that can be easily changed. As for your first (and I'd say, more substantive) argument, I'd like to counter that the symposium is for a very specialized type of discussion which happens to contain adult subject matter. Posts there must conform to relatively strict guidelines of conduct and behaviour. What we don't have a place for freeform discussion of a nature which may offend younger teens (or more likely, their parents). If I were to talk the way I normally talked with my friends in real life or on certain other forums populated almost entirely by University students, I'd get in deep shit very quickly. I'm sure many others moderate their language on these boards the same way. An Adult forum would allow them complete freedom to talk about topics which don't quite fit in any of the other forums, freedom which, in my opinion, rightfully does not exist in the common-available boards.

And if you want examples of said topics, I'd gladly provide them.

This is what I also invisage the adult forums being used for. The general forum rules include restrictions that help to avoid things that some people (or, as Cata said, their parents) might find offensive or inappropriate. The Symposium may include discussion involving adult subject matter, but they can only be discussions of a serious nature. The adult forums would allow the option for adult MI members to talk much more freely, knowing that people who might be offended or impressionable youngsters will not be in there. People would be able to have jokey threads on adult themes, as well the serious ones that crop up in the symposium.

I agree with the above 2 posts. For instance If I wanted to post a legitimate discussion on the benefits of Hardware hacking Naked I wouldn't exactly have a forum to hold such discussion in without warping the minds of the younger crowd which I'm sure would be frowned upon. (even tho it would be hilarious/I've been know to discuss such topics) And if Indeed the forum is for everyone there SHOULD be such a place for the delegating of such discussions just to keep other sections of the board age appropriate. after all you can't maintain a E for everyone without marking some things AO. [Adults Only]

I'd also have a place to post things like this:

Sorry I took so long to get back to this; computer was broken for at least a month and a half. Any last comments can be wrapped up this weekend and then we'll talk about the best course of action and implement your suggestions!
