Ooh! I really like her! Yes, her upper arms are a little uneven, but I don't think I'd have noticed if you hadn't pointed it out. My eye was drawn first to the beautiful detail and shading of her facial features, and then her body. It was only after that that I examined her arms.

Saka, Ilian Mercenary Referenced a model for kicks
Concept B
Tier 2 Uther concept One of probably many. Uther's important, so he has to look right.
Dom, Bernese Sergeant. Not a space marine.
Requested by Dahmar aaaaahhhh what is wrong with his face I can't fix it

What an interesting selection.

Ironically, my least favourite was the one you referenced the model for. Her face didn't seem as natural and well-proportioned as you usually achieve in your drawings. But maybe that's just me.

I love your second one, Concept B. I think she's very attractively drawn. And Uther looks very impressive. The detail in his armour is exquisite. My one minor criticism might be that his lower arms look possibly a little too tapered. Allowing for the thickness of the armour, he looks like they end up really skinny towrds the wrists, with the result that his clenched fist looks a little small in comparison to his muscular upper arms. Nevertheless, he's definitely my favourite out of this batch.

I'm intrigued by the huge, bulky armour worn by Dom. Is it some kind of power armour? Nice detail on it.

As for the final, coloured, drawing, I really like it. The only thing that I can see wrong with his face is that his eye areas look a bit flat. Maybe more variegation in the shading there might give them more depth. I've no idea what he's supposed to look like, so I don't know if there's anything about his features themselves that isn't right. I presume the actual shape and size of his eyes is deliberate.

- real people look dumb.
- Thank you.
- Aaaaahhh wrists. Until I was in eighth grade, I didn't even know they existed and everyone's arms went straight from elbow to muscle to giant goofy hand. At some point, I addressed this and started drawing wrists - but I guess I didn't compensate for the size difference and still drew hands like I used to. I've been doing it for so long now, I can't seem to fix it; even when I set out to draw absurdly large hands, I instinctively overcompensate.
- Dom is not a space marine >[
(It wasn't until I was finished that I really noticed how well he'd fit in most futuristic warfare games. I set out for a complex multi-layered suit of armour that rotated on multiple axis' with the help of pulleys and gears and allowed for maximum mobility and blah blah blah. It's basically middle-age power armour, yeah ._.)
- The facial features drove me nuts. Every time I tried to fix something, I just made it worse - or made something unrelated look worse for no explainable reason. Turns out I had the hair colour wrong and he wanted glasses, which made my job a hell of a lot easier:
Take Two

Other new stuff
Mayaldraena, a mamkute. Or manakete, depending on your preference. Dragons who've sealed their powers into gems so they can assume human form and move around undetected, for non-FE people.
Lionel, Knight General of Etruria. Please ignore the terrible head I don't know what went wrong there. It was placed wrong when I did the skeletal and muscular sketches, but since I did the armour first, I didn't get around to fixing it while I could still see his shoulders. Oh well.
Hawkeye and Mundus, guardians of Arcadia. Mundus looks terrible but this is Hawkeye's art so it doesn't matter. [s]but he looks terrible too waah (also that is supposed to be an elbowguard, not a mechanical joint)[/s]
Zora, wandering Bard. With extra sword-ribbon action!
Concept B which was supposed to show off her violin thingy but I got lazy.

What a difference the black hair and glasses make to that Dahmar request! He looks pretty good-looking now. :D

I really love Mayaldraena! She's easily my favourite out of all of these. (And I've been reading up a bit about FE, and have started playing FE7, so some of these concepts are actually starting to mean something to me now. :))

I don't think Lionel looks too bad. I probably wouldn't even have noticed the head issue of you hadn't mentioned it. :p The fact that his armour rises well above his shoulders does a pretty good job of disguising it.

Hawkeye and Mundus are probably the weakest of the bunch, but not as horrible as you're making out. :p (And I did realise that was an elbow guard. :D)

Nice action shot of Zora. (And you don't seem to have any problems with proportions with women's hands, judging by hers. I really like the hands in that picture.)

In the Concept B sketch, was her violin-thingy going to be in her right hand? That hand looks a bit unfinished, as though it's been added quickly as an afterthought. Her left hand, though, looks beautifully drawn.

Alright dude, despite all of your trashing on your own artwork (which I've been known to do myself, btw) I think your attention to minute detail such as clothing and accessories is absolutely astounding.

My personal favorite is the Zora one with ribbons. Excellent pose, and just from this picture alone, you have an excellent sense of balance and especially movement. Like Dino said, what's wrong with the wrists and hands? I don't see it. :)

Really, fantastic job. I'm going to have to look more at your artwork when you get more posted.

Though I'm not a very good critique when it comes to drawings and the such, I have to say that you have a very good artistic skill, especially with the very first one I clicked. The coloring was done much better than I can do, and the body shapes and limbs are pretty accurate. Very, very well done and hopefully you post more so that I have something to look at.

I ask myself why, and in that same breath, as I watch you, I get my answer. It\'s everything about you; it\'s that teasing smile, that warm scent. It\'s the curve of your arms, the tousle of your hair, the ring of your voice. It\'s just everything about you. But more than that, it\'s everything about me. It\'s everything about the way you make me laugh, cry, smile and hurt. It\'s everything about the way you make me feel. And that\'s everything that I cannot, and would not, want to let go of.

I've seen some of his stuff on MI's regular site and thought it was damn good, but I didn't look to see who actually drew it. (Sorry!)

I get really intimidated looking at other people's artwork, so when I do make the time to go in and check on their stuff, I don't want them to be offended by what I say or by the fact that I might not have anything good to say at all.

I know the feeling. Alternatively, after scrolling past dozens of posts saying how awesome something is, I can't comment without feeling redundant - especially in the innumerable sprite threads I browse. I try not to post anything unless I can find something constructive to say, but if I can't, I feel guilty for not confessing how much I like something.

I know exactly how you both feel. While I don't consider myself a total ignoramus where art is concerned, I'm certainly not a trained artist, and most of the people who post here are far more talented than I am, so I feel very inadequate when it comes to posting. And I would also feel it wasn't worth saying anything if I didn't have anything new to add on top of what others had already said. (If I wasn't the mod, I probably wouldn't comment very often, for exactly the same reasons as both of you have expressed.) But personally, I'd be delighted if anyone, no matter how inadeqate they think they are, would feel able to post something, even if it's only to say which picture they like best. I can't speak for you two, but other artists I have spoken to love to have people comment on their work. It makes them feel people are taking an interest.

Elaice, Western priestess
Post-GIMP Figured a couple of filters and liberal smudging would increase the quality. Turns out the end result wasn't worth the effort ._.

You may feel it was rather a lot of work for a relatively small difference, but I do like it. The like the original very much anyway, but you've been able to rub out the paper lines through her body, which is certainly a big help, and I love the effect of the fur that you've achieved with Gimp. It's really given an impression of the texture.

Wow, yeah, that fur is fantastic-looking!

Question: These characters, do you design them yourself or are they fanart? Because again, the attention you pay to minor details like materials and fabrics in the drawing of their outfits is astounding.

And I think she looks really really good post smudging and filters. I think it was totally worth it, personally. It took it from looking more like a rough sketch to a more polished, finished product that looked a lot better! Good job.

Mostly the former? Anyone prefixed with 'young' is an existing character with their age filed down, so that might count as fanart. After a few glances it becomes apparent I don't use references as much as I should ._.

Compare;
FE7 Pent
FE7x Pent

FE7 Louise
FE7x Louise

FE7 Lloyd and FE7 Linus
FE7x Lloyd and Linus

Actually, out of those, the only one that I felt didn't bear a a reasonable resemblance to the original was Linus. I thought all of the others were very believable as younger versions of the originals. (I know Pent was a younger version, because you labelled him as such when you posted him originally, but I couldn't find the others. Are they amongst your earlier posts?) In fact, Lousie is a pretty good likeness of the character even as she is now.
After a few glances it becomes apparent I don't use references as much as I should ._.
I kinda had that same problem when drawing Hello Kitty versions of stuff. It was much easier than what you're doing, though. Part of Hello Kitty's cuteness is simplifying minor details, but still resembling the original product, and simplifying details is a lot less work to have to draw. I didn't know these were Final Fantasy characters, lol (not because they didn't look like them, but simply because the only Final Fantasy game I am somewhat familiar with is FFX because my brother used to play it.)

So why does Pent carry around that book? :)

They're not Final Fantasy; they're Fire Emblem. FE, rather than FF (easy to misread). :p

I've only just started playing and it'll be a long time before I encounter Pent, but I know he spends a lot of time studying, so I presume that's the reason for the book.

And your Hello Kitty sketches are brilliant. You manage to recreate the features incredibly well, regardless of who it is you're caricaturing. But I do agree that it's probably a little easier to do that accurately with a character like Hello Kitty than with relatively detailed and realistic human subjects. Not that I'm doing down your skills at all.

A list of sketches based on existing characters;
FE7x
-First dump
Marcus; FE7, FE6
Uther; FE7 NPC
Harken; FE7
Isadora; FE7
Hassar; FE7 (Referenced, never seen)
-Third dump
Desmond; FE7 NPC
Wallace; FE7
Elbert; FE7 NPC
Eagler; FE7 Boss
Brendan; FE7 Boss
Linus and Lloyd; FE7 Bosses
Vaida; FE7
-Scattered
Pent; FE7
Louise; FE7
Dayan; FE6
Hawkeye; FE7

Other
Dante; Devil May Cry
Noctis (Nosocks); Final Fantasy Versus XIII
Vergil; Devil May Cry 3
Serra; FE7 ('Tried my hand at manga etc')
Nephenee and Geoffrey; FE9, FE10 ('Started learning to draw chins')

And the book is a Fire Emblem thing. Mages don't just cast spells outright, they have to recite the incantation from a tome. After each use of a spell, the page becomes blank?
They never really give us much detail. But you have to buy them in bulk, like any other weapon and use them cautiously. Tomes appear in character art every now and then, so I figured it would be a nice touch.

My one criticism would be that if his belt marks the position of his waist, then his legs seem to be a bit on the short side. But other than that, I think he's beautifully drawn, and the detail of his clothing is wonderful.

Where'd he buy those baggy pants he's wearing?

Kohls?

They look comfortable. ^_^

The wrinkles in the fabric look nicely done, and his helmet totally reminds me of Captain America (not a bad thing.)

Once again you've given us a lovely selection of pictures. You're a really prolific artist! I started off making a list of the ones I liked best, but I ended up with rather a lot of them. :p I think my favourite overall was probably the Calamity-era Hayt, but there were plenty of other really good ones. (I also very much liked the sad Hayt one too, but I can't be sure how much of that was due to artistic merit and how much was influenced by the fact that I've come to like him as a character.) I was particularly impressed by all your practice pages. The eyes and hands, especially, made me very envious. Did you use any models for those?

Btw, had you coloured some of the pictures? The shading on some of them didn't look like basic pencil.
