Yo friends, I figured I'd create a new art thread as I no longer identify as ClanSoul and a lot of my images from that era have been removed.

Let's start off with a rather festive Halloween experience, wherein I will show off my hella rad ghost I just created with a couple friends, which glows in the dark and will be placed outside my house tomorrow:

Ghost 1
Ghost 2
Ghost 3
Ghost 4
Ghost 5
Ghost 6
Ghost 7
Ghost 8
Ghost 9

I think this ghost is absolutely awesome. S/he (what sex is it?) is going to look brilliant outside. :)

This is a 3D model I made of a Kaiyuan Tongbao cash which, were it real, would be about 1400 years old.
I own several of these, and I thought it would be fun to create one of my own in Maya. I was correct.

I made it for a 16x16 canvas (almost 5000px at 300DPI) so I can put it on my wall.
The render took 8.5 hours for just the cash itself, the background I did in the potato shop.

Interesting historical info:
The symbols on the cash, Kai Yuan Tong Bao, translate to "New Beginning Universal Currency".
This signifies a time when the ancient Chinese mints changed their operating processes.

Coins were given three distinct tiers:
  • Tong bao (Universal Currency)
  • Yuan bao (Original Currency)
  • Zhong bao (Heavy Currency)
These expressed a coin's value in a conceptual sense, rather than by its weight as had previously been the case.

As I said when you showed me this yesterday, I originally took this for a photo. I think the accuracy and level of detail you've got into the image are amazing.
