This is the Bali Starling. I found it like this, having a nap on the bird box.

Image
It got up when I took the photo, and hopped onto this branch.

Image
It posed for me.

Image

Image
These ones I took with macro on - it was right in front of the camera, unflinching!

Image
I stroked it.

Image
Then it pecked me.

Image
I stroked it again.

So yeah, I had a great day at the zoo and we all really enjoyed it.
Even my sister, who was initially hesitant to go.
Woo!

You have some lovely photos there. (And it reminds me that I've been to 2 zoos in the last week or so. I should get some photos up.) I really like the Bali starling ones, and many of the others are very nicely composed, with some beautiful colour.

Which zoo were you at? Newquay?

Once. Quite a long time ago. I'm more familiar with Paignton. We used to go there every year when our boys were small. But our nearest zoo is Twycross. We went there a week or so ago because our son's gf wanted to go to a zoo with elephants (she'd never seen one). I'll post some photos (and some of Berlin zoo) once I've resized them and got them on to photobucket.

I'm pretty sure they do, but it can be hard to remember which zoo has what animals.

Yes, they do. I just googled it. :)

I've just posted some pics of the giraffes at Twycross zoo for you in the Art Gallery. I've probably got pics of the Paignton ones somewhere, but goodness knows where they're are currently.

Yay! He's finished! :D

He looks lovely! The basic lineart you showed me was nice, but the difference between that and the final version is amazing. :)

Are you planning on creating a whole pokédex?

I find all of these projects fascinating. I do hope we get to see the completed articles. I do like the idea of things hidden under all those post-it notes.

Is the "Whisper" print an image in its own right or will that eventually be part of a larger work?

That's come out very nicely. It's amazing how much detail you can convey with just the black and the white (or beige) background. Did you do that at college?

The model posed for us two weeks in a row; the first week I did the pencil sketch and today I painted onto it in Photoshop.
I borrowed my sister's laptop for the day so I could work digitally.
Of course, I photoshopped and replaced her desktop background too.

A very nicely done sketch, and the photoshopped colouring is interesting. Does it represent the shadow from something falling across her? Or is it abstract? (I notice you have those little squares running down the side of the frame, which makes me think maybe you were looking for an effect, rather than representing something specific.)

Jensen Ackles, "Dean Winchester" from Supernatural.
Vector made in Illustrator, for Hokerou.
My first ever Illustrator vector! That's why it's not very detailed, I'm still getting the hang of the new software.

Very impressive! I don't think the lack of detail matters. It gives it a clean, simple look.
