I don't think any members other than ClanSoul and myself have been using Mercurycraft in recent months but just in case anyone does try to, you'll find you can't get in. The server started glitching so badly (random areas of blocks vanishing for no reason, work not getting saved when you log out, certain commands not working properly) that it was becoming unusable, so, since it will be a long time before the next major Minecraft update which might fix the issues, ClanSoul's taken the site down.

Well, no rush, since we don't have a server for you to join. :P

XD Indeed, but still. I'm still kicking myself for not getting an account when it was free

After a very long period of down time due to glitches and major Minecraft updates, ClanSoul has got the Mercurycraft server up and running again. The world he's put on it is not the previous Mercurycarft world, but Ilihect, which is one that he used to host on my laptop in the days before we had a proper server. I know everyone's currently immersed in SW:TOR at present, but if anyone does fancy looking in you'd be very welcome.

One fairly major warning though: our subscription to the server for a year, bought as a birthday present for me by Foxstep last year, is due to expire in a little over two weeks so, unless we can find the funds to keep it going (which we'll only attempt if it looks like enough people want to use it), you'll only be able to play for a short while.

The IP for the server is in the opening post of this thread.

How much does the subscription cost? Or rather, how much do we need to raise?

A year's subscription for a decent server is a little over £100. (Yes, Fox was FAR too generous.) So you can see there's no point in trying to find the money unless a reasonable number of people want to use it. There are cheaper ones but, according to Sam, the cheaper ones not only have a lower capacity, which wouldn't be a problem, but also tend to be less reliable.

Well if people are still interested in this, we can work something out.

Sam has advertised the server on his Tumblr and allowed outsiders on, and several people have joined so we've renewed the subscription. (He's footed most of the bill, but I'll send him an additional contribution when I'm next paid.) There are a few minor glitches due to mod issues (the worst one being that you can currently only place beds facing west), but otherwise it's all up and running and hopefully will continue to do so for the next year.

There's also a dynamic map available at http://108.170.14.146:8888/, which shows the entire world together with the locations of anyone active on the server at the time.

For anyone who experienced that really strange, broken world that Sam put up as a temporary measure when the original Mercurycraft stopped working, this current one is that world as it used to be before it was destroyed (Sam had originally created the world as an RP setting, in which a massive civil war was going to result in the destruction of the world. He made a copy and destroyed it with an editor in advance, but the RP never happened.) The spawn point back then was in the ruins of the castle at Toria, a town to the south of the current spawn point in Triton.

Attention, citizens of Vault 113, this is

Hey, hi, hello, what's up.

I was wondering what member interest in Minecraft is. More specifically I'm wondering what member interest in Mercurycraft is, and whether or not it would be worth the investment of using an allotment of our server space in hosting a Minecraft server just for Mercury members.

I should have a copy of the game SOMEWHERE, so I could see myself popping in from time to time.

I haven't played Minecraft in ages but that's largely because playing in a solo world felt rather unsatisfying after playing for so long in a world with friends in it. I'd certainly make use of it.
