The RP will start at 9 AM Pacific, Monday. get your profiles in by then if you want to be a Captain
-Cataphrak

Ladies, Gentlemen, Questionables: I am to disclose another RP plan to you. This time it is not of my initiative, but instead directly from Commander Caius Nordcliffe Ambervale Wang Leonis, Cataphrak Viscount Stormraider. At the moment, this will be a discussion thread about the RP, as I've explained to Cata that we may be overloading ourselves if we take on another RP while we already have one going. But rest assured, it will happen, and I think you'll enjoy it.

Here's the plan, as Cataphrak explained to me (he'll expound when he's ready, he told me to go ahead and start the thread though). The Freikorps we know and love will be applied to High Fantasy genre of RP rather than a Science-Fantasy/Sci-Fi as it is now. As I suggested, and he agreed to, it will be set in Universe Varient Cappa Two instead of the baseline you're all used to. The planets become islands, space becomes the oceans and seas. The Freikorps become a very well armed mercenary group, whose name is tenatively "Mobius Legion" (this name will still be talked about I assume, as Cata liked it, but I thought it a bit cumbersome *shrug*).

Instead of spaceships, there will be sailing ships. Instead of Terrans, you will have regular old humans. Takarans become elves (haha, I called it). Magic outside that of explainable science is a reality, and weaponry is not progressed past the stage of swords, lances, axes, bows, and early pistols.

The vast majority of people I imagine, will be using weapons along the lines of swords/lances/axes/bows, but again, I'm not sure.

Also, Cata has said that a new profile for your alternate version of you is to be completed. You're essientially the same person, but in a different universe. You can explore facets of your current character that rarely come to light, or further extremize the qualities your character already has. The profiles should be in the following format:

Code:
Name:
Gender:
Age:
Position:
Homeland:
Alignment:
Equipment:
Archetype:
Personality:
Biography:

Now, as far as I understand, because this would be occurring somewhere other than Baseline, and we aren't altering Baselin or anything in it to suit this RP, this could become a new branch of Freikorps Canon. Correct me if I'm wrong Paul.

Not really, I'm only thinking of using it as a throwaway RP setting for the moment. As for characters, I'm posting mine...

Name: Sir Caius Leonis, Viscount of Xen
Gender: Male
Age: 28
Position: Captain-General, Mobius Legion
Homeland: Island of Terra
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Equipment: Halfcloak, back and breastplate, rapier, handaxe, six pistols and four daggers.
Archetype: 60% Magnificent Bastard, 35% Colonel Badass/Badass Normal, 5% Designated Villain

Personality:
Part genius tactician, part prodigy duelist, part machiavellian psychotic and part pure, unadulterated bastard, Caius of Xen never shows his emotions up front. Those who know him know better than to take him at face value. His usual facade is laid back, easy going, even lazy. He's a chronic procrastinator who is often sidetracked. He must often be reminded by others to remember to bear his own plans to fruition, and he has ALOT of plans. Caius is, however, perfectly capable of warping his outward emotions to conform to any situation that may arise. When in command on the field, he usually takes up a calm, detatched and aloof manner, one that inspires confidence in his subordinates and fear in his enemies. In the presence of superiors, he gives the impression of a weak, morally bankrupt rogue. All of his acts are designed to draw the people around him into their arranged positions in his master plan, one that is constantly being updated and whose result may prove interesting indeed.

Biography:
Born to a family of impoverished nobility best known for their diplomats, Caius was raised on the family estate on the island of Xen, a small, desolate rock shooting straight out of the ocean. The small manor house, carved out from the rock of the island was constantly battered by storms and high seas. From an early age, Caius learned quickly to remain calm during loud noises and keep composed in situations that would reduce normal children to tears. This, along with the diplomatic training that all scions of the Leonis family recieved gave him incredible composture at a very young age.

At the age of 14, Caius entered the Terran Army as a professional soldier. His family was neither prestigious or wealthy enough to afford to squire him to a knight of the realm, but they did have enough to buy him a commission as a very junior officer in the merchant cavalry. After a few weeks of simple instruction; learning to ride a horse, learning to swing a sword, learning to swing a sword while riding a horse without falling off and the like. Caius was still somewhat unsure of his training after less than two months of training, but when Terra went to war against the Antar League, Caius was shipped off with the rest of his regiment to fight on distant islands.

Leading a troop of light cavalry, the unexperienced Coronet Caius Leonis was assigned to a squadron scouting for the main column. On his third day in the warzone he was ordered to relieve a small unit of pikemen holed up in a ruined farm house. Unable to free the besieged soldiers through a frontal charge, the young officer came up with the bright idea of using both his troop's fast horses and an untested, unreliable new weapon to break the encirclement.

Riding up on the ring of Antar attackers at full speed, each of Caius' riders pulled out their pistols and fired at the enemy. They were untested weapons, issued onboard ship. None of them knew what the weapon's effects would be. The young cavalry officer's gamble paid off; the pistols didn't kill many of the attackers, but the loud flashes and noise scared off half the Antar force, while the other half took off after Caius' horsemen, allowing the trapped Terran infantry to escape.

Caius remained at the front for more than ten years, only returning to visit his family twice in that time. Over the years, the cavalry officer won more and more distinction with his increasingly refined tactics involving the new advancements in gunpowder and the traditional lance and shield style. He won a promotion to Captain and command of a squadron after eight years in service, becoming the youngest of the kingdom's senior commanders.

At the age of 26, Caius suddenly recieved news that his father, the reigning Viscount of Xen, had died. Obeying his family obligation, he quickly returned to Terra. A bit of research found that the officer in command of those pikemen that he had rescued so long ago happened to be the eldest son of the Terra's prime minister. After pulling a few strings, Caius walked away from the royal army with a knighthood, enough prize money to pay for the discharge and pension of his entire company and the bronze circlet of a Viscount of Terra.

It only took Caius six months to become bored of his duties. Xen was still too low for Caius to be considered a court noble, and he soon found himself wishing that he had stayed in the army. When he returned to the capital to request his commission back, he learned that the war had been won, and Terra no longer required his services. Where most would have given up, the young viscount saw oppurtunity. Using the rest of his prize money, Caius quickly hired up a motley collection of discharged soldiers. ne'er do wells, drifters and the remnatns of his old unit, he formed the Mobius Legion; a mercenary company perfectly capable of going where the royal army could not. With the recent assasination of the king, the Mobius Legion is finding more work than ever, and at it's heart, Caius of Xen is preparing to set his plans in motion...

"Those are brave men," he told Ser Balon in admiration. "Let's go kill them."

Shibby. I love High Fantasy (Before you go into it, Arthurian literature falls closer to higher low fantasy.) Oh and I suppose I'll get right on the stat Sheet. I wonder what sort of character I'll be making... *whistles innocently*

Oh, and is this going to be here, or in another forum's RP section... I think here would be best, but I'm never certain.

Name: Cassius von Holt
Gender: Male
Age: 80
Position: Cassius holds the rank of Captain in Mobius Legion
Homeland: Takara
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Equipment: Only a kodachi-like sword forged using a secret Takaran method is always with him. It will never break nor dull, and is infused with the power of darkness (also called "Elder Magic"). Cassius refers to it as Artemis, though he says it's true name is one of magic, and cannot be uttered aloud. If he wished to share it, it would have to be through thought or experience, and neither of these will occur, at least, Cassius will not allow it. He also possesses a Takaran bow he calls Diana, which is also infused with magic, but not near the degree that Artemis is. He only sometimes brings Diana, instead relying primarily on Artemis and his own instinctual magicks.
Archetype: AntiVillian/Magnificent Bastard
Personality: While most would view Cassius as an unfeeling, cold, logical person with little regard to morals and grandious schemes and ambitions, he has not forgotten the grace, and honor that his race is naturally imbued with. He is cultured and learned, and can be deceptivelly well mannered. This doesn't mean that he holds mercy or kindness in any large degree though, and would have no qualms with running a former colleague through the back if they turn traitor. The best way to describe Cassius though, is by noting his larger-than-life attitude and sometimes rather mainiacal behaviour. Whether it be everyday actions, or in the midst of battle, Cassius has a demanding presence and a flare for the theatrical. One thing that does tend to humanize Cassius though, is his love for art. And it doesn't matter what art it is. Singing, painting, magical feats, archery, poetry, and dancing are all of worth to him, as is nature, which art is often inspired by, despite his apparent lack of regard for other such "trivial" things. And despite his otherwise crass and holier-than-thou demeanour, he has no problem showing this off. He actually flaunts it to a degree, and can't resist putting on a show, whether wanted or not. And by no means will Cassius hold back from speaking his mind, even if it is touches on some things others may regard as taboo. He sees a hot girl, he'll call it. He thinks the Captain-General is being a moron, he'll say it. The King of a powerful foreign power has their fly open and it's driving him crazy? Well, he'd probably restrain himself out of tact and honor, but he sure would consider it.
Biography: Being of the elven race present in Takara, 80 years puts Cassius as a young person. If likened to a human lifescale, you might liken him to someone in their mid-twenties. He was raised as a companion to the Takaran Empire's prince, next in line to be emperor. Though not of noble birth himself, this fact of his upbringing makes it seems as if he is indeed of royal lineage. Until he was about 60 he was in constant attendance with the prince, and was more than a mere servent ( though, in all honesty that's technically what he was). He was also a page, and the closest friend the young prince had. The prince himself --as well as the royal family overall-- had been kind to the Holt's, and after over 100 years of service to the Emperor, Cassius's father had been dismissed from his official position of "servant" and been given a very small lordship, making the Holt's the von Holt's. Cassius himself is next in line to receive the title for the very first time from his father, though that may still be some time in the future. He has only one sibling, a sister named Serenity, and no romantic interests other than than the rather severe infatuation he had developed with the Princess when he was young. That's now a thing of the past, but Cassius is not shy about playing the part of a romantic. He is definitely not what some may call a "playa," but he has been known as a bit too bold in some instances.

CANON POST: THE MOBIUS LEGION

Overview:
The Mobius Legion is a mercenary outfit with the tacit support and financial support of the Regency Council of Terra and headquartered in the Eastern Redoubt of Terra's defences. It is a predominatly infantry force. The Mobius Legion is mostly made up of ex-solders of some sort or another. With the end of the recent war against the Antar League, these were not hard to find. The Legion has extremely high standards for recruitment and training. The Mobius Legion has a nominal strength of about 300, increased from it's inital strength of 60. The Legion has increased in size immensiely since it's founding. The Mobius Legion's order of battle is as follows:

First Platoon (Wild Cards)
1 Captain-General
40 Light Cavalry

Second and Third Platoons
2 Captains
100 Heavy Infantry

Fourth and Fifth Platoons
1 Captain
100 Light Infantry

Invictus
1 Captain
2 Leftenants
20 Crew
40 Gunners

Special Unit
1 Captain
10 Scholars and Researchers

Light Cavalry:
The entirety of the Light Cavalry unit comes from Sir Caius' old company in the royal army. All of them are well trained, loyal to the Captain-General and extremely professional. They are each armed with a pair of pistols, a light lance and a shortsword each. They are all brightly clothed and flaboyantly armoured in highly polished half-plate in the style of most mercenaries. They are specialised in Sir Caius' own cavalry tactics, and he leads them himself.

Heavy Infantry:
The Legion's heavy infantry are well drilled in formation tactics. Most of them are also ex-military. They are equipped with full plate armour and carry enormous tower shields as well as a longsword and javelins. The heavies are usually used as a defensive force in open set piece battles or used to deliver the final blow in battle. The captain of heavy infantry must have alot of endurance and great strength.

Light Infantry:
The Legion's light infantry are used as skirmishers, scouts and spies. Clad in concealing brown leathers and cloaks, the Mobius Legion's light infantry is usually equpped with a longbow, quiver and shortsword. They are used as the first wave in battle utilizing their bows and covert to thin out the enemy. Unlike peasant levies, the Legion's light infantry are well trained and well paid. Unlike the heavy infantry and cavalry, they usually originate from the city streets and were once thieves, rogues and other ne'er-do-wells.

The Invictus:
The Invictus is the Mobius Legion's only ship. A light and fast tall ship of about 750 metric tons. The Invictus mounts a dozen cannon and has enough space to carry thing entire Legion in one trip with enough food to last six months. The ship was custom built to the Captain-General's own exacting standards and is especially designed for it's job.

I'm going to be keelhauling Cassius's personality just as soon as I have a chance, I'll edit my last post when that comes. I like the character I posted, but he's not right for this role. I'll have to save that personality for somebody else.

ANOTHER CANON POST: THE HUMANS OF THE MILKY SEA

The Milky Sea is a large plateau on the ocean floor. Conventional wisdom states that it was once a continent, long before the emergence of human civilization, and that it had mostly eroded into the sea except for a few mountains, which became the people now live on. The sea's name comes from the geology of the plateau itself. The bottom of the Milky Sea is made up of a bed of fine white silt. Due to the shallowness of the sea itself, storms and high waves are common, stirring up the silt on the bottom and ispersing it into the water, giving it a somewhat milky, opaque look. The Milky Sea is, for the most part, located on the temperate areas, although parts of it stretch to both northern and southern ice caps. Ships built within the Milky Sea are unsuited for the deep ocean beyond it. Specialised hulls must be built for the purpose of venturing through the rest of the world, although this is considered a foolhardy enterprise, since everyone knows the world is flat. ;D

There are four main human powers in the Milky Sea, they are;

The United Kingdom of the Terran Islands
Government: Constitutional Monarchy
Current Rulers: Regency Council
Population: 23 900 000
Army: 5 600
Navy: 245 Ships, 11 000 men
Cultural Analogue: Tudor England
The Kingdom of Terra consists of several small islands near the centre of the Milky Sea. The Terrans have never been capable being able to clear enough space to become self sufficient off the land it's main industries are fishing, trade, and making objects for trade. Terra has the most powerful middle class in the Milky Sea, and as such, is a centre of trade and the manufacture of machined goods. To protect it's trade routes, Terra possesses the most powerful navy in the known world. Centered around a handful of massive 80-100 gun floating fortresses, the bulk of the Royal Fleet is made up of small, fast escort vessels. Terra's army is small and professional, thanks to a recent ten-year war with the Antar League. It is mostly made up of light merchant cavalry, pikemen and longbowmen.

A year ago, the reigning king, Michel III (the Clever), was assasinated while on maneuvers with the fleet. Since then, a regency council consisting of the prime minister and privy council have ruled Terra.

The League of Antar
Government: Noble Republic
Current Rulers: The Congress of Magnates
Population: 67 000 000
Army: 400 000
Navy: 23 ships, 1200 men
Cultural Analogue: Poland-Lithuania/Early Imperial Russia
The League of Antar is made up of one rather large island on the northern side of the Milky Sea. Most of the island is covered in snow for atleast three or four months. However, this land is also very fertile, and powerful magnates rule the farmlands with iron fists, forcing masses of peasants to work the land under horrible conditions. These same magnates form the Congress, the League's ruling body. The Congress of Magnates is the laughingstock of the civilized world, famed for it's ineffectiveness. Since all votes within the congress must be unanimous to pass, a single dissenting voice could stall even the most popular motion forever. The sheer stupidty of the government was showcased in a recent war with Terra, where the Terran Army, outnumbered twenty to one, easily outmaneuvered the massive Antari army and was not stopped until they were at the gates of the capital. Antar had to submit to a humiliating treaty and pay massive reparations to the Terrans, but now, after the Terran king's assasination, many believe that Antar is planning to return the favour.

Mydean Caliphate
Government: Theocracy
Current Ruler: Calif Arrashan III/Calif Elluphir V
Population: 9 000 000
Army: 13 000
Navy: None
Cultural Analogue: Spanish Moors
The constantly warring factions of the Caliphate take up most of the small islands of the south. Each lacking the resources to maintain a proper navy, they use small skiffs and rafts to send teams of twenty to fifty soldiers on raids. There are many Mydean tribes, each led by a high priest. There are currently two leaders of high priests, factionalised into two warring groups. It is not likely that any side will win in the near future.

Vykkian Empire
Government: Magocracy
Current Ruler: The Fenglung Emperor
Population: 112 210 000
Army: 250 000
Navy: 112 Ships and 150 000 Men
Cultural Analogue: Han China
The Vykkians are not ruled by a designated family or social class, but by a purely plutocratic method. When the old ruler dies, the most powerful artificiers (mages) of the empire are brought together. A solid iron ball is tossed into the air, and the mages, in a circle around it, try to pull the ball towards them. Whoever is capable of grasping the ball first is proclaimed "Son of the Gods" The new emperor will inherit a formidable nation. It's army is one of the best organized and trained in the world and it's navy is made up of massive war-junks which rival the Terran ships of the line in size and power. More importantly, the Vykkians have a massive pool of highly educated and well trained mages. Unlike in most societies where mages are eithe revered or reviled, in Vykkia, they are a part of every day life.

CANON POST: Universe Varient Cappa 2
i.e. The Setting

In the world present in the "High Fantasy Universe" the entire universe is smaller--as is population and such-- and though we may find it difficult to comprehend, the whole of that universe is exactly what you see: water, land, and sky. The water and land is not on a planet, and the sky does not open into some larger space. You may try to wrap your brain around the old concepts preached so assuredly before people knew the world was round. It is flat, and the stars and moon and sun are all set in one place (perhaps a solid curtain hanging just above the sky, who knows?) and turn about the universe/world below. And yes, the sun and moon are indeed the same size. Are the stars just holes in that skyward tapestry, letting down light from heavens? Possibly.

Magic is a very real, and potentially dangerous thing. To humankind, magic can only be acheived via spells and potions, and then not nearly to the same degree as other races. Elves are capable of using instinctual magicks; that is, without being tied to books and in some instances, not even motions or words (though these are still the preferred and safest method of using magic). The occasional mermaid/mermen are not capable of using real magic, and can only acheive the smallest of feats with underwater fire and ice. Nymphs are probably the most magic fluent, as they are almost completely in tune with nature in even the smallest degree; in fact, being nymphs, they are almost a part of nature themselves, but are rare and seldom seen in the modern world.

And now for two Powers of my own to add to the list:

The Empire of Takara
Government: Inherited Imperial System
Current Ruler: Lord-Emperor Reskin; Paulus Dynasty
Population: 8,800,000
Army: 3000
Navy: 89 Ships, 2,000 Persons
Cultural Analogue: Yuan Imperial Dynasty, China (circa 1280) smushed with Germany. Yeah, figure THAT out. :zeth:
The elvish Takarans long ago did away with civil war and strife, and since the War with the Vykkians over 2000 years ago, have lived mostly in peacetime conditions. Although they have a somewhat smaller army and navy than some other nations, these are mostly filled with some of the most skilled magicians in the Milky Sea. They function mainly as the only commercial power rivalling that of the Kingdom of Terra's. What helps those of Takara though, is that they can procure/produce items through magic that are difficult to find on the market in most areas. They also function the "Police of the Seas," and if there is any kind of dispute or emergency between the territorial waters of the other kingdoms, you can bet it's sailed by the occasional Takaran watchdog schooner. This non-navy "sea police" offers aid to any travallers, whether they favor them or not, and usually swoop in, repair and heal, and send them back on their way with as little to-do as possible. Almost all of the stopping ports used by sailing ships are built by neutral-third-party-type Takarans, and are either still actively upkept by them or in use by others with respect to its Takaran builders.

The Buten Confederacy
Government: Confederacy
Current Rulers: Congress of Cheiftans
Population: 1,400,000
Army: 1500
Navy: 25 Ships, 250 Persons
Cultural Analogue: Iroquois Nation (During the Columbian Era)
The Buten Confederacy is more or less a "leave me alone, I have all the friends I need" kind of soceity. While their is certainly no dislike of other kingdoms, the Butens have only recently found peace after nearly a century of civil war. Nearly the opposite of their also elvish cousins of Takara, Butea is a place where upheaval in government is not something totally alien. ATM, the Butens have resolved their issues, and are slowly beginning to become a place known for tourism. This is mainly due to the fact that Butea, a small group of islands with a mixed temperate/tropical climate, is one of the few places where nymphs may still allow themselves to be seen. Why is still a mystery, as nymphs despise war.

Homeland: Vykkia (if Zeth/Cata approves)

Equipment: Darksteel-coated shuriken and daggers, black cloak, fine chain shirt, rapier, black headband imprinted with Vykkian runes.
Archetype: Silently confident
Personality: Few know Nurich, and even fewer have spent a decent amount of time with him. He values his friends, scarce though they are, and is fiercely loyal to those close to him. Though he might seem unloving on the outside, inside is a deeply emotional and sarcastic bundle of human. Most Vykkians shun him, seeing as he lacks the typical Vykkian traits, clearly marking him a foreigner, and he avoids the Vykkians as much as possible. He is an independent, preferring to deal with problems on his own instead of sharing them with others.
Biography: Nurich was a project by the Vykkian military 19 years ago. He was born in the League of Antar, though Vykkians kidnapped Nurich when he was not even a year old, taking him back to their homeland as to experiment on him. Initially, it failed, but the Emperor insisted that it be pursued further. 12 years into the project, Nurich's abilities exploded. A head mage had made a deal with a demon of silence, exchanging Nurich's voice for his expanded repertoire. Since then, Nurich has been voiceless. He would do almost anything to be able to speak again. But he changed from the dumb kid in the back of the class to the student excelling in every subject. The Vykkian persistence had finally payed off. Nurich had been raised in a tower, surrounded by the finest mages available. Two years after his sudden development, Nurich was sent to the Emperor himself for inspection. He was pleased, and Nurich soon found himself working for the Vykkian military. His first mission was to find and exterminate three dissenters in the palace, who were taking drastic measures against the Vykkian government. Nurich was back within a few hours with the heads of the dissenters. When they saw the deadly efficiency of this new weapon, they promptly stopped the project. The more humans they abducted, the more likely they were to revolt. Besides, Nurich was more than enough. In the five years since then, Nurich has climbed the ranks among the military. Though not given an official rank, due to his foreign birth and unusual assignments, Nurich sits in with the generals as they discuss how to improve their military.

Those who wish to be must put aside the alienation,
Get on with the fascination,

I can think of a few other Archetypes to attribute to your character...

By the way, by "Alignment" I meant Dungeons and Dragons alignment, "Good", "Neutral" and "Evil" combined with "Lawful", "Neutral" and "Chaotic". (Example; Caius is a Lawful Neutral, which means he'll follow authority, but only for his own, or the Legion's gain. He gets away with this since his goals and Terra's goals match up quite nicely.)

EDIT: Antar is the northernmost island, the bottom is a bit like Scotland, the top is more like Siberia.

Sorry 1337, at this point in time Takara/Takari is only admissable to officers for use by my permission. At this point in time I'm not ready to open it up either.
You'll have to change it.

EDIT:
Not to mention the Takarans would never do something like what you've described in your biography. Not at its current point of development anyways. If you'd come along, say, 2000 years ago they would if they could, or mayhaps another 1000 or 2000 years later they may, but not now.

I have a question... would it be possible for me to be a nymph? Or will I have to be an elf instead?

And what rank should I be within the Mobius Legion?

Zeth is handling the Elf end, but rankwise, I'm thinking everyone whose on the General Staff should be Captain atleast.

So there can't be more than one elf? But can I be a nymph?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say "yes", but if Zeth disagrees, it's his call.

Yay! *celebratory dance*

Now, I'm off to get more info on nymphs, and to make my profile!

EDIT:

Another question... what alignment I be? Is there a certain one, or can I pick?

Also, I'm lost on the archtypes thing. Am I going to have to steal my brother's D&D books for this?

Strickly speaking, mercenary groups tend to be made of various alignments, though those posesing distinctly chaotic evil traits tend to hide them.

Edit: I'll get you a chart.

i heard once that nymphs were always nude o.o and they were like the most beautiful things alive (according to humans). but if i had to guess its alignment i would say chaotic neutral.

You know what, screw it, I've a better idea.

And Nymphs are quite capable of wearing clothes. they usually don't though, since they are an aspect of nature and are not subject to human decency requirements. This also means that while they aren't violent, they are also not particularly people persons.

That sounds exactly like me most of the time... except for the nude part.

I think I'll go with Chaotic Good. From what I remember of my brother's books (I used to make characters with them for fun), Chaotic Good was the one I liked best I think.

Oooh, your character's going to be difficult for Caius to deal with...
