"I'll take that station," Keris said, as she moved towards the one M had just vacated. "Those are precisely the nodes I want to check."

She suppressed a smirk at M's message suggestion.

"I do hope that wasn't serious. If there are any more pirates in this region I'm sure they'd love the chance to come after a 'pathetic' vessel. I'd favour a far more generic..."

She leaned across to take a look at the console that M was studying.

"Wait a minute... What's that?"

She stood up and moved across to look directly over M's shoulder.

"That light there shouldn't be illuminated. Is everything working properly on this bridge?"

Keris reached over M and brought up a new set of options, then selected one.

"As I thought... That's an incoming message! We'd better see who they are and what they want."

She selected 'audio only' and hit 'confirm'.

[Setting the Mood]

"Unidentified Vessel, this is LCV Pinafore repeating introductory hail, please respond. Unidentified vessel, you are not broadcasting alignment codes and are off of marked routes, please respond. Boarding action will be taken if you do not respond to this hail." there was a long-ish pause before the message was repeated. M and Keris looked around for the option to open the channel in a reciprocal direction.

M found it and tapped it. "LCV Pinafore, this is the...Realm, we are reading you. Apologies for not responding sooner; there was nobody manning the bridge."

The repeating message seemed about to start again before there was a bit of a scuffling sound. "Ship Realm, LCV Pinafore will be arriving at your location momentarily. Preliminary scans indicate you are packing heavy payload devices; what manner of vessel are you and what is your purpose? You are off all marked routes; are you damaged or in a state of quarantine?"

M hesitated only briefly. "Damaged yes, though operational. No illnesses, though everybody aboard is a bit spent, I'd guess. Our biggest problem would be we've run out of fuel for faster than light travel. We were just about to send a distress signal, actually." As M relayed this last message, the forward viewport was abruptly filled with a vessel easily three times as large as the Realm, looming relatively close to them in the unfathomably huge stretches of space. It's bow and bridge area, as indicated by the viewport's HUD, was squared, and that was most of what M and Keris could make out from just looking at it, since it filled their view and the angle was straight towards them.

"Acknowledged. Commander Shepherd, commanding officer of the Lethain Corporation SecForces aboard this vessel, requests speaking to your ship's captain or equivalent ranking commanding officer."

M looked at Keris as he stumbled to respond. "We...don't...have one?" There was a similar pause on the other end. It was a little longer and quieter than M would have guessed for simple confusion, so he figured the comm officer aboard the vessel was probably relaying to someone higher up. His suspicion seemed confirmed when a different, rougher but polite voice came across the comms again.

"This is Commander Shepherd of the LCV Pinafore SecForce Company. Am I to understand that you're a ship essentially adrift, with physical damage, no bridge crew, no commanding officer...and you're 'okay'?"

"I know that sounds pretty bizarre, but, well, that's pretty much accurate, yes sir, Commander Shepherd," M responded brightly.

"Who am I talking to?"

"Ah, my name is Emeris, and I have with me an acquaintance named Keris."

"All right, Emeris: you have an operational viewscreen or are we forced to keep this audio-only?"

"Oh, I'm sorry, let me see..." Keris directed him immediately the visual channel link, which she in turn activated for him. The forward view suddenly changed to the image of a tidy, efficient but spacious two-level bridge. A middle aged sebacianoid man with slat and pepper hair in a red and black uniform stood from leaning over a console and directed his attention to them, the view narrowing on him and excluding most of the bridge.

"Thank you, I like to see who I'm talking to. Keeps people honest in my experience."

"M smiled and stoodfrom his own seat, offering a nod of respect. "In my experience as well, Commander. I am glad to meet you. And see anybody at all, I have to confess."

The man looked modestly sceptical, but also aloof and difficult to read. "Of course. Emeris, I'm going to ask you directly: are you conducting a salvage mission aboard this vessel? Because I'm hazarding the guess that if you are you don't have paperwork."

"Oh, no sir, of course not. This ship...it's hard to explain succinctly, but we..." he looked at Keris and sighed lightly. "Well I suppose you could say we did salvage it, but it was far away from here and, circumstances becoming what they did, we escaped on it, and are now trapped on it, to say the least. As I understand it though, some of those aboard are familiar with this vessel, and may be able to explain to you better exactly how the matter of ownership or salvage rights can be handled. We could...have you aboard...?"

"Thanks, I'll take you up on that offer," Shepherd said authoritatively. "You will prepare to be boarded. Things will go much smoother if you tell everyone to find some quarters to get in and stay there. If there is anybody who can take responsibility for the ship or your...escapees or crew or whatever you have, you should have them assemble outside your ship's primary hangar. I'll be bringing a platoon over myself in a strike ship. You got five minutes. Thank you for your co-operation." The man nodded, and politely allowed M to return in with an "of course" and close the channel himself.

M looked to Keris. "Richard, Shaina and Syn know something about the Realm's past, right? We had better make extra sure they're present."

"So much for sorting out defence and security matters before meeting anyone." Keris muttered. "Let's hope this doesn't lead to any more complications than we have already. But yes, we should definitely have Richard, Shaina and Syn in the welcome party. And much as I'm loath to say it, given his previous record, I'm wondering if Richard might be particularly relevant here - did you notice what that organisation was called? 'Lethain Corporation.' It may just be a coincidence, but I'm certain that when Shaina introduced Richard she called him Richard Lethain."

She turned back to the comms console and set it for a general intraship announcement.

"Keris to all hands. We've been contacted by a ship belonging to a security force patrolling this sector. They wish to come aboard and have requested personnel to remain in their quarters. Co-operation looks to be the most expedient course of action - for now. But everyone be ready for anything - just in case. Richard, Shaina and Syn, please report to..."

Keris looked up at M again.

"Where do you suppose he's going to come aboard? He said the primary hangar, but the last time I saw that it was full of rubble and debris from the battle with Dasah. Do you think he'll really try to bring a ship in there?"

M touched an option on his interface. "Main Hangar, yes. This option," he pointed where he had just tapped, "seems to send out a docking signal for ships. I'm going to assume they'll head straight for that." He took over the comm from Keris, "This is M. Main Hangar. We'll meet you there. You've got four minutes before we get in trouble with people with weapons and a big ship."

M picked up the assault rifle from the ground near his seat and waited for Keris to ready herself to go. "This is exciting, isn't it? More or less just what we needed in this situation."

"I'll judge whether it's 'exciting', 'annoying' or downright 'disastrous' based on the outcome," Keris replied, "but at least we've made contact with someone. Overall, the possibilities are probably better than drifting alone in space."

She stepped away from the console, quickly checked that all was well with her disruptor and headed for the exit.

"We've got four minutes too. Better not keep those weapons and big ship waiting."

[Richard from the Pinafore after Timeskip. Still Munchkin-y]

Richard walked onto the Bridge and Sat down in the nearest seat he could find and swiveled in it for a few minutes His brow furrowed. He had just gotten back from discussing the conditions of passage to a safe location with the Captain of the Pinafore and the use of a "Tow Truck". The Captain had, however, noted that they were on Patrol and couldn't escort the Realm to it's destination. He would be leaving Commander Shepherd's team as security detail to the HQ, and then would return to the Pinafore while more permanent arrangements were made.

"Sir." Shepherd spoke up.

"Oh Seven Hells. I'd forgotten you were there." Richard half shouted in surprise.

"I've been following you since the Hangar."

"Oh. I guess You started to blend in. Like a wall."

"From the look of most of the walls around here, sir--no offence--that would only mean I look as old as I feel."

"Fair enough. Either of you two hungry? I could do with a sandwich." Richard asked of both Shepherd and Miranda.

"I think perhaps it would be prudent to deal with the situation on board the Ship first, Sir, The Pinafore will be moving on shortly, and I'd like to Address any situations for which we might need their assistance before then." Shepherd responded.

"I suppose you have a point. Urg. This is why I don't like being the President. Work work work. Worst of all, it's thinking work."

"You could have just remained incognito and let us do our search. everything would have played out the same, except Emeris would be in the hot seat."

"Huh. That's a pretty good Idea." Richard said, No longer spinning his chair. He then got up and slapped a button on the console. "Calling Doctor Howard, Doctor Fine, Doctor Howard. Please Report to Surgery." He slapped the button and spun back around, to the looks of Miranda and Captain Shepherd. "Oh Right." He spun back and slapped the Button again. "So... For that Metaphor, Emeris is Doctor Howard, Keris is Doctor Fine, and Shaina is Doctor Howard. And Surgery is the Bridge. So... basically, could you three come to the bridge? Actually, everyone not keeping the ship from blowing up could probably come. Thank you."

[From Cassius's Cabin]

Cassius stepped through the automatic doors with the hard soles of his boots clacking firmly. Apparently he wasn't the first to arrive, as Richard, seated at the first chair almost immediately to the right of the door, was flanked by two visitors. And older gentleman with a stern but tired look to his face and an attractive young woman with copper hair. Maybe a little too young. Nice figure enough figure though. And, well, she wasn't a child. He assigned her a 7. 6.5, maybe.

But he blinked away the thought and bowed his head to Richard and then the other two. "I see no longer am I the most recent addendum to this prolific literature. Pranzu Holt Casys von Synamni'Kaliforni'a--but perhaps it is in the best interests of all present parties if I were to defer address to merely 'Cassius'."

Shepard held out a hesitant hand accompanied by a subtle "is this guy for real" expression, and Cassius abruptly made to shake the hand, forgetting the custom. "Commander Phillip Shepherd, LCV Pinafore SecForce leader."

"Delighted, Commander."

"Miranda Anders," Miranda said, also offering her hand, which Cassius promptly kissed.

"More delighted, Meittcyn Aniders."

[From the Armoury]

"Smooooooohoooooth~" Syn half-hummed as he entered the room a short distance behind Cassius. He'd come in a little after, but just in time to hear the end of his introductions. He was in a good mood, so he let little flickers of fire run from the edges of his clothing as he moved. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything, but I fear that I won't be the last. Everyone else is well on the way, so if you're planning to take this much further, I'd advise you find your way to a bunk pretty quickly, before you lose the benefit of privacy." He carried on walking into the bridge as he talked, finding his way to a spare workstation and sitting himself down on the swivel-chair, kicking around to address the room again, "Well, you'll lose more privacy than you have now, that is, and I wouldn't call this very well secluded as is."

He sat back in the chair, getting himself more comfortable before continuing. "So should I ask why we have been asked to gather here, or should I wait until the gathering actually happens? I kinda left a number of pretty ladies inspecting the munitions stockpile without me, and I could swear blind that the crew quarters were next on the list of places to see. I'd really hate to skip out on my duties as a host and all, y'know?"

[M from Escape Pod Docks

Miranda blushed and withdrew her hand as Cassius gave Syn a witheringly dry glance.

"How strikingly boorish," he said, withdrawing from the exchange and looking around. He opted to stand casually with his back against one of the walls rather than take a seat for the moment.

"Funny," said M, entering in comically the same way Syn had, "I thought I was the host now. Do my duties include fondling now?" He motioned to the far side of the room, noting the bridge's likelihood of running out of seats in which to casually lounge. When he'd first seen it, he'd thought the bridge a bit small and lopsided at first, judging from the position of the door, but then realised there was actually a a recessedentry to a sort of tactical planning area with a multipurpose tac-pool table people could gather around, sectioned off from the rest of the bridge by the consoles and walls. "Meeting in tactical, anybody?"

Cassius accepted with a nod and made his way over, interested in examining the previously unnoticed area. It was dimmer room with the light coming from the tabletop in the centre of the room, a clean blue-white light.

"If you've got a willing guest, why not?" Syn shrugged, looking about and taking in the responses, withering glare included, before sitting up a little straighter. "What, no sense of humour on the bridge?" He pushed himself up onto his feet and made his way over to the newly discovered room.

"I wonder why we never used this space before, pretty nifty in here." He wondered aloud as he propped himself against the wall, where he could see the newcomers coming into the bridge and keep a good view of the table.

"Probably for the best I called you here now at least before my oldest friend gets me a sexual harassment lawsuit to deal with." Richard commented deadpan. "Again."

He then got up and motioned for the Commander and Miranda to follow him, as he moved towards the recess and hopped up an the table, sitting on it in front of the table's powerseat.

Timothy came in just in Time to see everybody moving towards a small Corner of the Room, and so followed them almost noiselessly there. He had caught none of the Conversation which had passed before, so he felt a little awkward, and, when the Time came, seated himself about midway down the Table on the less-occupied side. He found the Chair rather too small to be particularly comfortable, but it was not terrible, he supposed. Richard was still very small, so he sat on the Table. That one reassured him a little — if nothing else, he understood Illyrian — and there were also Emris, Syn, some People he had never before seen, and the pointy-eared Man to whom he had given the Flowers (and whose Name was difficult for him to Pronounce). That would leave Keris, Raine, the one who was completely covered in strange Armour, and possibly some others. Oh, yes, and Shaina. She would probably appear from somewhere or other as well, and perhaps also One, though he was beginning to have some Inkling of her not being altogether as living as the others.

There was some Kind of peculiar, rather garish, Light coming from the Centre of the Table, and this struck Timothy as an exceedingly peculiar Arrangement. Why would anybody set a Light in a Table? Certainly, it was better to have it overhead, so that it was not shining in everybody's Face... perhaps it was not practical somehow to put Lights in that Place, for whatever Reason...? That a lighted Table existed should not have surprised him, what with all the stranger Things he had already seen, and yet it had. He showed no Perturbation, however, and waited for whatever was going to happen to commence.

[From Medical Bay]

Keris came in through the door from the corridor at a brisk, purposeful walk. She immediately picked up the sounds of people settling themselves down in an adjacent room and, having glanced swiftly around the bridge and ascertained that there was neither anyone present nor anything amiss, she followed those sounds through an open door set into a recess and found herself in a conference room whose focus was what she assumed was a tactical display table. Richard was seated upon it and various others, crew members and security personnel, were assembled around it. Keris stepped up to one of the seats by the table but opted to remain standing, hands clasped behind her, as she joined the others in waiting for what Richard had to impart.

"Hello, Timothy," M said pleasantly. "Didn't get too bored in your quarters, I hope." M turned to look to Shepherd, who had taken a position standing against the back wall behind Richard, with Miranda beside him. "There's no reason to keep people cooped up in their room after this, right? Especially after this--you'll have met everybody aboard."

"I'm fine with it," Shepherd replied evenly. He gave Miranda a look and a nod that she understood meant to keep track of anyone they hadn't met yet.

"Excellent. On that note, I don't think you've met Timothy. Timothy, Commander Phillip Shepherd; Commander, Timothy Chartier." Following the introduction there was a subdued but loud enough to be heard knock to be heard from the entrance to the room, turning heads. It was a human looking woman, average height with very dark hair and a deep skin tone that matched Shaina's pretty closely. Her features were pretty enough but a bit plain and difficult to distinguish any sort of heritage from--a touch of Indian, maybe. She was wearing a dark gray one-piece mechanic's suit with some sort of simple knotted seal printed high up on the left arm in a much lighter gray, and black boots that also looked very much like Shaina's. Her age was also difficult to gauge, but she may have been a very well-maintained 40, with just a few wrinkles around the eyes, nose and mouth that suggested her very lean, fine features were used to smile a lot.

"Hello. I wasn't sure if the invitation was meant to include me. I'm One, looking a bit better for the wear now. I promise I wasn't keeping the ship from exploding. She is feeling very good right now."

Timothy nodded when M greeted him, and said, 'Delighted,' with a small Nod upon being introduced to the Commander, though he was not entirely certain of what this Shepherd was Commander. He did not suppose it quite proper to ask whether this Shepherd Person were of some Military Party which was to assume Command of the Realm, but supposed he might be told soon enough, since everybody was gathering together for it.

Then One appeared. She was looking better than before, and appeared to have been given Hands.

She looks a little like Lady Kapori, I suppose, he mused. I wonder how Sophie is getting on; I was expecting her to announce that she would become Mrs. Kapori soon. Perhaps there is a Text about what becomes of her somewhere...

[Shaina from the Bar]

"One--the temporarily disembodied android. You definitely do look better for the wear. We'd be happy to have you," M said in greeting.

"Gynoid, in the most concise sense, but 'android' works just as well," One clarified as she circled the table, and, seeing that the very few seats were already starting to fill, politely decided to stand, not far from M.

Cassius sized up the newcomer quickly. Modest and average in all physical aspects, but still somewhat exotic from the look of her eyes--what eyes they were--and skin. He would have given her a solid 7--she was good for someone who physically appeared obviously older than him. Still though...

"Am I to understand that you are a manifestation of that personal data device utilised by Timothy in the medical facilities nearer my time of arrival?"

"Yes, I am."

Cassius was clearly impressed. "And further I am to understand you are not, in a particular fashion of understanding, entirely a real person?"

"I am as real as you perceive me to be," she said, nonplussed.

"Is your mind capable of spontaneity and simple heuristics?" M asked, interested.

"Yes."

M looked at Cassius, "That goes a long way toward being real in my book." Cassius was still impressed, but not particularly swayed.

"What's wrong with your eyes?" The elf pointed at One's mismatched eyes and their vibrant colours. Her right was an impossible, liquid-y looking pink, while her left seemed like a very dull, iron gray but with distinct lines of an electric green-blue that actually seemed to glow a little bit in the dim light. The gynoid indicated her right eye to explain, but Shaina entered with clomping footsteps, ducking into the sideroom after not seeing anybody around the bridge proper.

"Looks like a party. Sorry, the bar doesn't have much left to contribute to one else I would've brought a souvenir." She looked at One again, trying to imagine the dimensions of the earlier bare frame aligning with the person she now saw. "Well damn, you shaped yourself up nice, girl." The little time lady eased herself around Timothy and past Cassius to give One a more up close inspection, pulling her spanner out to have at the ready. "Old President's elite tech uniform--serviceable, if not flashy." She pursed her lips. "Thought you would've gone for a younger look."

"Well I'm not that young, depending on how you define 'me'." One confessed. "It seemed appropriate."

"How old are you?" M asked.

"Difficult to say, to be honest, with so many shut downs, time skips, remodels and decompilation and recompilations. I remember the old crew though. You seem much more...responsible now, Richard." She looked back to Cassius as Shaina took one of her hands and was feeling it with alternately gentle and firm squeezes to the digits and palm. "The eyes in my old chassis were rather unique, so I salvaged the one I could," she motioned to her right, pink eye with her free hand. "The other's a completely unmodified new fabrication. I apologise if it's a bit distracting--some of the relay paths are visible on shutter."

Shaina stopped investigating the hand and whipped her sonic up and buzzed it at the pink eye, then the digital-looking green-blue. "We can get an amorphous cap to make them match. Smart to wait though, we can add some auxiliary features to this eye before we finish and close it with the cap."

"Why not just leave them mismatched?" M interjected. "Adds distinction."

"It is, to say the least, distinct such as it may command no little attention from individuals unfamiliar," Cassius noted disapprovingly. "Though it requires no speculation that even as a lone trait, possessed of visage so peculiarly coloured, even matched, would have no different a result."

Shepherd looked at M, "Does he really always talk like that?"

"So far, yes."

Shepherd nodded with mild exasperation as Shaina continued the conversation. "Not really--I think. There are plenty of species out there with pink eyes in their phenotypical pool. They'd only really stand out somewhere where those species aren't common."

"I see," Cassius conceded, stymied.

"Perhaps a more.. versatile 'cap' then? I'm sure we could get our hands one some manner of optical camouflage material without much difficulty." Syn added in contribution, making a distinct point of ignoring Richard's 'law suit' comment. Most of the crew didn't know about that bit, for now, and he had no time to try and defend himself against something like that. So moving swiftly onwards, he continued, " Could use that to fashion something that gives you, well, options. All the time. That's always nice."

Raine entered the bridge as he was talking, and after a moment's confusion, she noticed the room and joined the others, taking a seat at the far end of the table. She seemed irritated about something, and rather more quiet than usual, but she gave the gathered crew a curt nod. It was only once she was seated that she noticed Sheperd and Miranda.

"Uh, hey. I'm Raine." She said, trying to take the gruffness out of her voice, and not being particularly successful.

Shepherd and Miranda made their salutations as Shaina continued to investigate One's modifications by making her rotate her shoulders. "Hey Raine. What's shakin?"

"Feeling all right?" M asked, noting Raine's dejected demeanour.

Keris stood and watched the new arrivals impassively. She had presumed Shaina must be responsible for the gynoid's new body, though she was puzzled by the fact that Shaina herself seemed to be unfamiliar with One's new appearance. But she could ask about it later. Since One had specifically stated that she wasn't playing a role in holding the ship together, she was currently of less importance than whatever matter Richard had summoned everyone for, which probably did concern the ship. She also noted Raine's disgruntled manner but didn't say anything - she barely knew the woman; it wasn't her place to ask possibly personal questions, especially not in company, from the other end of the table. She merely hoped that Raine was professional enough not to let any emotional upsets prevent her from doing whatever job was assigned to her. As it happened, M asked the question just a moment later anyway. Keris was no more than vaguely interested in the potential reply; she was already noting that there were now only two of the Realm's personnel still missing. Would Caulder and Wraith turn up to the meeting? All bar M, Shaina and herself had been invited rather than summoned so they were under no obligation to attend, but everyone else had come. Even the gynoid.

"It's.." She had been about to answer Shaina when M's question came, and she stopped a moment. "Nothing important, for now. Though I'd quite like to shake that fishbowl more than a little." She said in response, making an effort to better compose herself. She then nodded affirmation to Sheperd and Miranda in confirmation, more as an afterthought than anything.

Caulder arrived a few moments later, introducing himself as he walked into the tactical room.

"I am Caulder, for those that do not know me." He tilted his head to the Lethain Corp members. "No need to introduce yourselves, I have been plugged into the surveillance since your ship docked." He said as he took a seat, the exact opposite end of the table to Raine. "Excluding personnel quarters, of course." He added, realising that it may require elaboration. "Wraith sends his best regards, and his assurances that while he will not be operating as an active member of the crew from here on out, he will be acting in the best interests of those aboard whenever he can. That would make those of us gathered here the current entirety of the crew."

"Damned ninja does like to keep his distance." Syn put in from the side, "I wouldn't call this the complete crew just yet anyway, we still need to get Jayge back, don't forget."

Raine flashed an angry look at him, but hid it quickly enough that he didn't seem to notice.

"We will get him back, as soon as the ship is fully operational, I am sure." said Caulder, insistent, though he turned his head to regard M, as though asking confirmation. Raine shot Caulder an angry look as well, though she maintained this one a little longer. He ignored it.

"I suspect Wraith is keeping tabs on the conversation anyways." Richard said, looking over his shoulder to no where in particular.

"So I'm about to infuriate Keris and point out that this isn't a business meeting. It's a friendly get together to sort out information that everyone should probably know. Things might start moving a little fast and I'm not sure how how much everyone knows, so the briefest way to explain it is that our fuel issue has been resolved. Bar another major catastrophe, we should be fine till we get to civilization.

"The friendly people standing behind me have seen fit to give us a tow, though we'll be going to their own Headquarters, though it's an active enough a hub for travel to anywhere for anyone wishing to get off, and if we're going to get the resources to fix the old girl up, we'll it's probably the best place to go. They've also requested a search through the ship for any illegal materials or any threats, as we have had some of our people vanish on us. They feel it prudent to determine how.

"They also request that we develop some sort of organization. At this point, certain things have already been established. Emeris is in charge. I suspect unless he goes full dictator mode, no one has a problem with this. Second position is that I happen to know the Commander's boss. If anything happens to him or his personnel, or we wind up causing an issue, He'll hold me accountable. So try not to get anyone killed. Other than that, there are a few ship's positions to be filled. Shaina, I think you had the List last I looked. You wouldn't happen to be able to be able to bring it up on this fun little table here, would you? Or is it stuck on tactical display and the like?" Richard paused.

"Huh. I guess that was rather business like... Nope, Still don't like it. I'm done here, you guys have fun making decisions." he said, walking towards the side of the table and looking down.

"Hang on, Richard," M said as Shaina stopped investigating One and took a seat next to Raine, waving her wonderful technomagic spanner over the tactical pool. "If you could stay here for the time being, I'd really appreciate it. Especially since you're likely the only person here able to answer some questions."

"Essential Crew List--voilà," Shaina proclaimed as several holographic plaques appeared over the pool. There were six plaques labelled Captain, Security Chief, Engineer, Doctor, Cook and Tour Guide/Interrogator. Two of the plaques had holoimages already above them: Captain and Engineer. A stalwart but serene image of M with his hands clasped behind his back hovered over Captain, while Shaina, in a stance like she was ready to spring forward or otherwise jump around with her Rydberg in one hand pointed one way and her Spanner in the other pointing the opposite direction hovered over Engineer.

"Interesting choice of image for Engineer," M noted.

"It makes me look cooler," Shaina replied.

"What manner of essential compilation of crew positions stops short to exclude Quartermaster without failing to require Cook?" Cassius asked derisively.

"Hey, historically Cooks were incredibly important to keeping a ship sailing," Shaina defended.

"Verily," Cassius replied. "Though not unlikely equally possessing of truth would be the concept that such was before vessels could so professionally attend to their own operations as this on appears to do, should I be in fact correctly understanding it. A person of what position attends to the maintenance, distribution and protection of personnel supplies?"

"I dunno."

Cassius snorted. "Preposterous," he said, waving his hand. "Regardless, it would be in the best interests of all present that the position relating to medical care should be awarded to myself."

"You...want to be the ship's Doctor?" M asked with acute incredulousness.

"I may be of a seemingly inferior origin, but i perceive none so much as myself qualified."

M Seemed a good enough Captain, Timothy thought, and Shaina apparently was a Mechanic, so the Roles struck him as fitting enough. He was not entirely certain about Cassius becoming the Ship's Doctor, however, if only because he knew so very little about him. He did appear to be rather good with living Things, if the peculiar Vines found at the Site of the Skirmish with the Dromeanthrope Woman were any Sign, but her State of Decay also suggested that he knew very well how to use it in rather unsavoury Ways. Could he be trusted? He had, of course, not manifested any real Hostility towards anybody other than the Dromeanthropes, which were, at the Time, an openly hostile Species. He had to use his Pad to look up the Word Quartermaster, which was either somebody responsible for distributing Supplies, or else steering... this new Language seemed to be divided into an ungainly Number of Dialects containing Words which meant different Thing. He guessed that Cassius probably meant the first one.

'With the Way the Ship looks to operate, we really needn't a Quartermaster, and Mechanic covers Maintenance, if I'm not much mistaken,' he said. 'I'm not sure I understand why Tour Guide and Interrogator are the same Office, however.'

Keris almost did a double take at Cassius' proposal but the more she thought about it the more she realised that it might well be a sensible idea. He had already mentioned his ability to heal twice in her presence and, while she had never actually seen him in action, it did appear to be the case that he had been able to patch himself up before coming to the Med. Bay after his fight with the drome, and he had somehow been able to return not just his own body, but even his clothes, to immaculate condition when he regained consciousness after the Ehni's crash. Of course, he wasn't the only one with the ability to heal by means of some innate power or other - Timothy had done quite a lot towards healing Cassius' injuries while he was unconscious, as well as doing some work on Shaina and Keris herself - but she recalled him admitting he had little experience, while Cassius had apparently been confident about his own abilities and even criticised Timothy's work on him. And it might be good to give the elf a job rather than having him wandering around the ship with nothing to do but make snide comments.

As for the other positions...

"I think Shaina delights in frivolousness almost as much as Richard," she replied to Timothy. "But I volunteer myself for Chief of Security. I have some experience in such matters, amongst others, from my service in the Romulan fleet, and I have already been familiarising myself with the ship's systems," she added, addressing both M and Shaina.

'Though I make no Objection, to the present Proposals, yet, but, perhaps we should permit the, Captain, to select whom he thinks best to fill these Positions, and, then, confirm, or refuse, them by Acclamation? It might be good, to have a fixed Process for it. Otherwise, in the Spirit of Frivolity, I shall nominate myself Cook, since I am, at best, dubiously suitable for anything else.'
