When it was propounded earlier in the Shoutbox that there be a new RP to liven the Place up a bit, I thought of this. The stage is a Fictitious World rather like ours before the Outbreak of the first World War. At this time, in a large, sprawling Empire called Ruthenia, a new Emperor has come to the Throne at the time a forward-thinking Ruler such as himself is most needed, but also at one in which his Position, though nominally that of Absolute Ruler, is most precarious. There has been widespread discontent for the past several Generations, and anti-monarchist Sentiments are at an all-Time high. Though the Military remains loyal to the Emperor, he still often fears for his Life, for revolutionary Cabals have become all the more active following the Death of his Father. Parliament, a still-weak Institution, is divided, and the Emperor has before him a corrupt and inefficent Bureaucracy to make away with, but doing so will take some time.

Though he is reluctant to use them in suppressing civilian activity, the Secret Police are tasked with preserving his Life. At the time of his Ascension, the Emperor should very much have liked to do away with them, but this was, sadly, not possible. Rather, he has filled its Ranks with those more to his Liking, cautiously and generously stearing those he did not wish to have there into Retirement (or, to his Ruth, making away with some).

Our Story begins one fine Autumn Morning — the Emperor is returning from his Summer Home in the Country, and all are on Alert. Just who are these Agents of the Secret Police? That is for you to decide.

This RP is mechanically based on the various Tales Games, and shall make use of both newly-created and classical Skills and Spells. Character Templates shall be posted shortly.

Any chance you can put the templates up as something that openoffice can make use of? I can't open them at present..

I quite like the sounds of this so far. I've only played one of the Tales games, I think it was on the PSP, and I do remember it being a very good game, so I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes :)

Description
Lord Hinson is a tall, imposing Sort of Man who, despite his Stature, retains cheery, young-looking Features, including a few of his Childhood Freckles. His favourite Attire is a long Officer's Coat in the usual Black, with a peculiar Piece of Oriental Fabric — yellow, like the Ribbon — tied about the Waist; and he fancies that Material, whatever it is, enough to have also used it to tie a Bow about his Collar.

Never a slim Person, Christopher Hinson appears to have roughly twice the Muscle Bulk a Man of his Size ought to, though his Doctors are at a loss to explain why, for it is far more than any Strongman in his Day is known to have built; it appears, however, also to mean he can grow ill if he does not eat enough, and he seems to need to do so almost constantly, much to his own Dismay, as it strikes him as a terribly impolite Thing to have to do.

Personality
In addition to serving in the Imperial Secret Police, Lord Hinson is known to be a rather eccentric Fellow who is endlessly pleased with Novelties, of whatever Sort. He is known to keep a Greenhouse, in which he grows and breeds strange exotic Plants; and he is also highly-intrigued by new Discoveries regarding Health and Exercise. Unlike many of his Contemporaries, he is known to refer to Smoking as "that dirty Habit", and seems to be always chastising the Emperor for taking Snuff. Despite, or perhaps because of, his many Eccentricities, his Subordinates tend to look upon him with a Mix of Bewilderment and Admiration.

Positioning in Prologue
Lord Hinson is seated next to the Emperor in his Car, chatting on incessantly about some odd Flower he has finally succeded in bringing from one of the far Corners of the World.

You might want to add a bit more about the characters for us to input, such as Appearance, name, Small history and personality fields ((Assuming we are supposed to be the guards, it would be nice to know how we see our fellow guards. It's not like we have skits to delve into our personal backgrounds like in the game, such might stumble game flow))

On a personal note, your classes feel a bit restrictive, though given you are adapting a game into the RP, this might be an acceptable break. You are going to need some things from the tales series to actually tie it together, and the game mechanics are really the only things that the Players cannot derail.

I suppose I guessed the above Edit right, since it now does contain a Template of the Sort mentioned above. As for the Skill thing, I've thought of a Way to (hopefully) make it a tad less restrictive, and also (hopefully) less convoluted. With it shall come a few more Details about the World.

As you may or may not have noted, the classical RPG Element "Light" is, for some unfathomable Reason, conflated with Water, but not Ice, and has been renamed "Sea". This is a little Quirk I rather liked from Tales of Legendia, and so I decided to keep it, along with the term "Eres" for Skills ("Iron Eres" for those based on Weapons, and "Crystal Eres" for Magic), rather than the more common "Artes". I have yet to decide whether to simply use that same World, an alternate Version of it, or just to keep the terms and continue on with an original one.

Description
Jason is a slender fellow, built like an acrobat. He has solid features, and an ever-present wry grin. His hair is a curly mess that falls to is shoulders, and is usually tied back into a high tail, or swept back under a bandanna. In terms of clothing, he usually dresses in formal attire, black trousers, grey waistcoat, and a light jacket. His choice of sleeveless formal shirts beneath his waistcoat often surprises people, but they do allow him a great capacity for movement once his jacket is dispatched.

Personality
A true performer in every right, Jason is amiable, fluid, and adaptable. He was raised to be quick on his feet and quicker in the head, and even though he does have his shortcomings, he is remarkably observant, and very good at picking up on little bits and pieces of information. He is well known to be the type who'd rather figure things out himself than ask 'why' directly.

Positioning in Prologue
At present Jason is sat at a bar amidst a number of elder fellows, relieving each of them of fair sums of money over what would appear to most to be an even game of cards.

Notes on Template Completion.

I. Healing and Support Series.

A standard Healing Series comprises either First Aid/Cure or Nurse/Revitalise with either Recover/Recuperate or Resurrection/Revive.

A standard Support Series comprises any Crystal Eres which affects stat parameters (Shield, Antishield, Rally, Taunt, Haste, Beset, Elcity, Ceyledy) with the corresponding Eres that affect all Allies or Enemies (Shelter, Antishelter, Leader's Rally, Leader's Taunt, Imbue, Beset, Iarrew). Any two matched healing Eres — First Aid/Cure, Nurse/Revitalise, Resurrection/Revive, Dispel/Dissipation, Recover/Recuperate — may be substituted.

II. Arcane Eres
In addition to the Elemental Eres provided, two Base Eres, a Base Eres and a Novice-Tier Crystal Eres, or two Crystal Eres, may be combined into an Arcane Eres, in which one Base Eres flows into the other, or the Base Eres flows into the Crystal Eres; two Novice-Tier Crystal Eres may not be combined. It takes on the Elements of both Eres throughout. Arcane Eres and non Novice-Tier Crystal Eres may not be combined in this Fashion. The combined Eres shall be named, at the Discretion of the User (pending Approval, of course), by combining Words from the Names of the Base Pair.

III. Time Stop
Time Stop, where allowed, may fill either a Support or High-Tier Crystal Eres Slot.

IV. Sacred Eres
These Abilities shall be designed later, if at all, and will be the Characters' ultimate Skills.

V. Choosing an Arteset
As a general Rule, Mêlée Characters will use the Swordsman Series, Ranged Characters the Ranged Series (even if using Bows or Guns — the Eres Descriptions for these Characters will change slightly to reflect their Weapons of Choice), Unarmed Characters the Unarmed Series, and Ninjas the Ninja Series. The Magic User and Mage Thief may use any, but will likely lean towards the Ranged Series and the Ninja Series.

Hopefully, I have not made a grave Mistake in choosing the World of one of my favourite Tales — Shining Blue, that of Tales of Legendia, which I believe needs a revisit, for, although the Game nad its many Misses, the World itself was quite an intriguing one, or so I fancy.

Shining Blue
A Brief History of the World
Once, long ago, there was no Land, and people, the Ferines, lived underwater, guided by Nerifes, the Will of the Sea. One Day, however, a massive Object fell from the Sky and crashed into the Ocean, bringing to this World people who needed the Land to live, the Orerines. Using the Power they found in the Ferines, the Orerines created a terrible Device capable of raising Land from the Seabed — the Wings of Light. For a time, Ferines and Orerines coexisted peacefully upon the Land, but the Ferines never strayed too far from their true Home in the Sea, but Relations soured, and eventually the Ferines were driven back, but were able to capture the original Ship, the Legacy, upon which the Kingdom of Terises was formed.
Upon the Legacy was also built a terrible Weapon, the Nerifes Cannon, which, like the Wings of Light, drew Fragments of the Power of Nerifes from the Ferines, and which could level entire Cities in a single Stroke. It was, however, the Wings of Light which was their Objective, and, with it, half the Land that was risen was sunken beneath the Sea once more.

Some Centuries later, the Wrath of Nerifes was grown so very great that this was very nearly done again, but, this time, Orerines and Ferines reached out to each-other, and Nerifes was calmed.

Many Generations have come and gone, and few recall that there were ever people called Ferines and Orerines. Most can breathe Underwater for some Time, but not forever, and all can use Eres, the Blessing of Nerifes. The Legacy has long been lost, and has been presumed destroyed for many Years.

One fine Autumn Day
The newly-crowned Emperor of Ruthenia, Alfred IX, returns from his Summer Residence in the Country; he is deeply troubled by the present State of his Country — a sprawling, corrupt, inefficient thing he has resolved to restore. He faces many Problems — useless, stagnant Bureaucracies, growing Discontent, proliferating revolutionary Cabals both on and off Ruthenian Soil, and the constant Threat of Assassination. He is defended most loyally by his Secret Police, whom he has handpicked to aid in keeping him alive and upon his Throne long enough to enact his Reforms. Although empowered to act extralegally, the Emperor keeps a close Eye on them, and forbids their acting suchly without dire Need.

Alfred harbours, in addition, another, stronger, Dream, that of giving his People a better Land on which to live, for although Ruthenia is a great, sprawling Empire, much of it is unpleasant or outright uninhabitable. It is his Ambition, should he only be able to attain the Assent of Nerifes, to revive the Wings of Light and recreate the lost Lands as a Homeland for his crowded and unhappy Subjects. To this End, he seeks to hasten the Creation of a new Merines, but where such a Person might be found is unknown to anybody, though his Researchers believe they are drawing Closer to locating the last Remains of the Legacy.

Three Major NPCs
Alfred XIV of Ruthenia
The Emperor of Ruthenia, the Protection of whom is the first Priority of the Imperial Secret Police; his present Project is the reformation of his weak, corrupt, and backward Country into a place of Progress and cultural Flourishing. Though he would very much like to disband the Secret Police, he cannot hope to accomplish his Goals without them, for he should find his own Life lost quite shortly. Once he has mended his Country, the Emperor has made it his Ambition to restore the Land once lost to the Anger of Nerifes, but fears there cannot be another Merines.

He appears to study Crystal Eres, but is not yet terribly proficient.

Lord Christopher Hinson
There is none known in Ruthenia for his Eccentricities quite so well as Lord Hinson — he is, by Profession, a Researcher and Archivist, but appears to pass most of his Time in studying the Novel and the Curious without a Care for its Usefulness. His best-known Pursuit is growing Plants with strangely-coloured Leaves, especially yellow ones, with which Colour he seems to be especially pleased Few are known for being quite as large as he, for he stands six Inches over seven Feet in height, and has a strange Condition which has granted him twice the Muscle Bulk a Man of his Size ought to have, but at the Expense of having to eat very often, which he thinks unfortunate, as it cannot be terribly polite to do so.

Apparently an Eren, he is known to have healed the Emperor after a number of Encounters with Revolutionary Groups of less-than-appealing Intentions. Though he often carries a large Claymore, he has never been seen to use it.

Sir Andreas Kellerman
A Man of Common Birth, Sir Andreas proved, nevertheless, a highly-competent Agent and so climbed upwards with Ease. He was one of few serving under his Father to be retained, and even found himself replacing the departing Director of the Secret Police, and, for his Services to the Empire, he was made a Knight. In his official Capacity, he is a Lieutenant-General of the Ruthenian Armed Forces, in which his Duties are rather ill-defined. A surprisingly gentle, fatherly Figure, Sir Andreas is well-liked by his Men, amongst whom he encourages a friendly Camaraderie, and whom, as he is both unmarried and childless, he considers his Family.

Sir Andreas is a Master of Eres, both Iron and Crystal, and tends toward Thunder-, Ice-, and Curse-elemental Spells. His Weapon of Choice is an Axe.

It begins!

A young Man stands in a certain Tavern in which he watches another winning quite handsomely at Cards. He waits, peering into the Briefcase he carries every few Moments as if to reassure himself that whatever he was carrying is still there. When the Motorcar carrying the Emperor draws nearer, however, he slips out into the Crowd, and a few other People may be seen to do the Same. Andreas is watching quite cautiously whilst Lord Hinson appears to be chattering on about how he has somehow invented a sort of Plant which grows blue Leaves and green Flowers, which is the Opposite of what it normally does.

Gathering up and shuffling the cards again with great flair after another winning hand, Jason glanced up for but a moment. Or at least, he appeared to. In truth, he had been assigned to this post for a good few hours, and while he had long since decided to turn a profit from this endeavour, the majority of his attention was focussed on the street outside.
He had noticed the suspicious-looking man with his briefcase a short while ago, and had been following him between hands since. At this point, with the Emperor's car fast approaching, he decided to join the crowd out on the street. He made a point of checking his wristwatch, and gave the men sat around the table before him a startled look.

"Ah, my apologies, dear friends. It appears that I must depart." In one swift motion, he set the deck of cards, along with its pack, on the table, and swept his rather substantial winnings into his pockets. "Please, continue without me, I shall be sure to return another time. It has been a pleasure doing business with you all."

The reactions of the gathered gents was, of course, quite mixed. Some were sad that one of the more entertaining members of the party was leaving, while the others were thankful that they'd at least have a chance at winning back some of their losses now. Jason rose, retrieved his jacket from the back of his chair and his curiously lengthy shoulder-pack from behind it, shook a few hands, and stepped out of the pub and onto the street, amidst the crowd, barely a few feet behind and to the left of the suspicious man. He would keep an eye on that one, he thought, clutching the strap of his pack, believing himself ready for almost anything as the Emperor's car approached.



As someone who really enjoys contractions: It's what it's.

In the Crowd, the man with the Briefcase waits, watching as the Emperor's car draws near. He does not look into it again.

Andreas, in the Car with the Emperor, looks quite nervous, and watches the Man with the Briefcase hawkishly. Christopher Hinson appears to be chattering away still, oblivious to any Danger, and the Emperor looks more worried than does Andreas, and is not at all paying attention to what his Companion is saying.

And then, when the Car passes very closely by, the Man suddenly opens the Case again, but this time with the apparent Intent of pulling something from it...

Jason had been watching the man with the briefcase more than he had the car, he certainly was an odd one, he thought...He looked tense, as though something was about to happen. It would make sense, Jason supposed, had the man been expecting to meet the Emperor in person or something, and had he not been consistently checking that briefcase of his, Jason would have simply assumed that this man was some sort of affectionado, feeling anxious over just seening the Emperor, or something like that. But it was his job to keep an eye out for people who might cause trouble, and as the suspicious man opening up his briefcase again, this time obviously aiming to pull something out, he decided to take action.

"Oops, sorry there mate." Jason grunted, deliberately 'tripping', and effectively shoulder barging the man from the side and falling to his knee in front of him, aiming to at least put himself between the man and his briefcase, and the Emperor's vehicle as it drove on past.



As someone who really enjoys contractions: It's what it's.
