So, this afternoon, on a whim, I decided to record a bit of political commentary and post it on Youtube. In the interest of getting it as much exposure as possible, I figured I'd posted it here and see what the wide run of Mercers thought of it (I know there are quite a few prominently conservative members, as well as quite a few very liberal ones). Feel free to comment up/downvote on the page. Save this thread for any rebuttal or substantive comment you may have. Let's keep Crystal's Symposium relatively clutter free, shall we?

Anyways, here it is:

I have to admit that I find it very hard to take a deep interest in politics, even though I'm aware that it affects each one of us, and I certainly haven't studied it in anything like the detail that you have, so I'm not really in a position to make a serious contribution to any discussion here, but when I viewed your video on Youtube recently I was impressed by the thought you'd put into it, and I thought you raised some very valid points (and the one about fear of change is something that I have thought about when considering conservatism in a purely religious context).

I personally don't believe in there even being such a thing as a political label like conservative or liberal. The truth of it is that almost all politicians at least in some regard mislead the public in some way in order to validate themselves as a candidate. This is especially true in America where we currently see Candidates running under the flags of new parties just to try and capture their votes. the focus on labels has become a crutch for politics as a whole to the detriment of the citizenry and much to the profit of corporatism and lobbyists. When people become caught up in the politics of politics then the reasons and issues become lost in the red tape and name calling. That's what's been going on for generations now. No 1 person can say they fully agree with any 1 established set of party ideals. And there is a reason for this. To keep "Conservatives" and "Liberals" fighting so nothing actually gets done about the issues at hand. I myself am not a Republican nor Democrat, Liberal nor Conservative. I scarcely even dare to refer to myself as an Independent because for what I truly am is a Human being citizen of the People's Republic of the United States of America. And its when People forget who they are that they lose sight of their true goal and become manipulated by those who would seek to control them.

The reason this is all viewed as bad is due to the same kind of thing witnessed in the rising of Adolf Hitler.
I'll explain, Hitler when he was first in the army was involved in shutting down the Socialists And after his schooling his views became antisemitic, nationalist, and anti-capitalist like his hero Anton Drexler. It was at this time He began to Scapegoat the Jews. Who at the time were the large influx of Immigrants much like the often scapegoated American's Mexican Immigrants. Hitler argued for a "rational anti-Semitism" which would not resort to riots or mobs, but instead "legally fight and remove the privileges enjoyed by the Jews as opposed to other foreigners living among us. Its final goal, however, must be the irrevocable removal of the Jews themselves." Which many would argue sounds like the plans of many Southern politicians. (I digress however) Hitler later Infiltrated what was then the DAP and orchestrated its transformation into the NSDAP. Flying the flag of the same Socialism he had fought against but using it to deceive the masses. It was soon after this that Nazism started to become more than just an extremist group.

The Nazis promoted a socially conservative view of all aspects of life, supported by harsh discipline and a militaristic point of view.
It wasn't necessarily the ideas themselves that gave way but what Does remain is a tie between Conservatism and Social Conservatism as being associated with the acts that followed.
Including the collapse and destruction of Democracy eventually leading into a horrible dictatorship.

The people will always feel some connection to Nazism and Conservatism and because of this some of the better ideas held by a conservative will constantly be dismissed. If we could break away from the labels and political Politicking then there COULD be a chance for more conservative ideas to be accepted.

I hope that made sense. This is like the who knows what article I've written today.

On the flip side however I would be interested in more of these videos Cataphrak.
