I have finally settled on a new desktop! Keep in mind that I have a dual screen set up so this image is quite large:
Image

I really did like the simple and minimalist feel of my last pair of desktop images, and while working on this screen-spanner I had some ideas of how I could blend the two ideas, so what I may end up doing is having this rotate with simple, broad-brush stroke overlaid images of the individual characters against a flat background, most likely black.

Very nice! As I've already said, I like the composition of it, even though you had some misgivings, and it's great to see all your GW2 characters together in one scene.

After about... four Years, I think... I have finally changed my Desktop Background, and to something vastly different to what it was before.

I went ahead and did what I said I was going to do with 6 characters to start with and am loving the results so much better than the screen-spanner up there. Going to wait before I do the other characters but this was a great start I think, and I'm going to start rotating between these:

Avaracia
Lantana
Roger
Onepheira
Vurig
Ensiferum

Vurig may have come out the best IMO, with Roger and Av making close runners up.

Ooh yes! Those have come out really well. Av is my favourite there, by quite along way, actually.

I never really looked at my Steam trading cards before, but I'm glad I did this time because this was on one of them.

If it is not displaying too much ignorance to ask, what is that a trading card for?

I wouldn't describe Red Hot Chili Peppers as one of my favourite bands but the logo certainly makes a good desktop design.

Yeah, it's pretty good. I remember being obsessed with that band for a while. They're still a band I like a lot, but I don't sit and just listen to them for hours on end like I used to. I like to mix it up a little more nowadays.

I wish the quality on this one was a little cleaner. It's a bit blurry and distorted. Still a cool image, though.

I have a lot of simplistic designs like this. Surprised one hasn't come up sooner in this thread.

I can't stand desktop icons. We used to have to share a computer, my whole family. And my parents and sister had icons everywhere. I vowed that when I got my own computer, there wouldn't be a damned icon on the desktop (besides recycle bin of course) and I have stuck to it. The only programs I use are pinned to the task bar at the bottom. On the off chance I use something else I just find it in the start menu. It's the easiest system for me personally. Also, it makes it easier to admire all of my hundreds and hundreds (I think like 1400 at this point) wallpapers.

I was starting to wonder if maybe you had thrown all your programs into the recycling bin.

I don't think you can run programs from the Recycle Bin.

Why do you dislike icons? Are you an iconoclast?

I tend to not have many icons on my desktop either. Right now I have way more than I normally do, but usually I have the Recycle Bin and maybe one or two others.

You guys have seen mine right? It's double the space and it doesn't even have the recycling bin on it.

Why so bare?
1. Aesthetically it's more pleasing.
2. It's healthier for your computer. Every time you view your desktop your computer has to redraw it. Everyone of those icons has to be redrawn when that happens, and to redo those, well, let's give an example: You ever have a shortcut to something and then that something is deleted? What happens the shortcut icon? It breaks, right? Turns into an X or ? or grays out or something, right? Case in point, your computer traces each of those icons to the things they represent in order to redraw them. So loading your desktop up with icons is exponentially slowing your computer and eating up exponentially more resources. Why exponentially? Because if you have one icon, it takes X% more RAM and HS spins to locate and use the information needed--not to mention the video card that's actually pumping out the image you see to your monitor--and then a second icon is Y% atop of X% and so on and so forth until the end of time.
3. There are more efficacious and simply cooler alternatives to desktop icons.
