Comments: Will Ferrell stars as loser Phil Weston, vitamin store owner and son of constant winner Buck Weston (played by Robert Duvall). Phil has a problem: his dad is too competitive and Phil has never been able to live up to his expectations. So when Phil's son Sam (played by Dylan McLaughlin) gets traded from the top team, the Gladiators, coached by Buck, to the worst team, the Tigers, Phil decides to step in and coach for the missing coach. Much comedy ensues as he finds out that not a single kid on his team can play soccer. He enlists the help of Mike Ditka, former coach of the Superbowl Champions the Chicago Bears and Buck's worst enemy. The more Phil coaches, however, the more he realizes he's taking on his father's style of coaching: yelling at the kids and using the "pass it to the Italians" plan, added by much consumption of coffee. So of course there's a moral to the story: play soccer to have fun and not to win, and it is laid on a bit thick near the end, but overall this movie is hilarious and good for the family. Will Ferrell is absolutely insane in this movie, from chugging coffee and getting attacked by dogs to getting punched in the face by Ditka and throwing chairs on the field. There's some pretty decent soccer in here as well. There are some pretty lame moments, but for the most part this is a mildly entertaining movie, when Will Ferrell isn't scaring the crap out of you. I am a fan of him, but some of what he is does is just plain overdone, and at some points, it's even frightening. This is one to rent.
