Attention: New Art Competition

It’s competition time in the Art and Design forums again. Winners of each category will be put up on the Mercury Ice site. I’m asking for submissions of new work that has not already been posted, in the following categories:

CG Art – Original computer generated pictures
Tags and Wallpapers (I might possibly split this category if we get a lot of entries)

Non-computer pictures

Photos

Writing – Short Story
Poem

In addition there are two special categories:

Since people have already posted some beautiful work, I would like nominations for a piece of existing work to go on the site.

It was decided that the winner of the banner contest was best suited to the Modern Blue theme, so we still need a banner for the Lineage theme. Therefore we are holding a further banner contest for the Lineage theme as a category within this competition.

Please PM me your entries, saying which category they are for. I will then post them anonymously and at the end of the contest I will set up a poll to vote for the winner. That way people will be voting based on the art itself and not be influenced by feelings of loyalty for the artist.

Provisionally the deadline will be August 31st. I’ll post a confirmed date later.

I am not running this, but I am pretty sure you're allowed to enter more than one category. As for more than one piece per category, that's up to Dino.

Yes, you can submit entries for as many categories as you like. And, provided you don't go over the top, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be allowed to enter more than one item in a category.

I see non-computer art as being anything drawn, painted, etc. using traditional materials, but I think we can allow things that have been drawn by hand but coloured using a computer, so long as you haven't used a computer to add special effects.

Let's see, what other questions were there.

Ah yes, Inu, as Crystal said, your digital painting would count as CG.

A couple of final points -

The closing date is confirmed as the end of August. After that date I will set up polls to vote for the winners.

If the creators of the non-winning banners in the recent banner contest wish to re-submit them for the Lineage banner contest, they may do so.

Hey, you don't have to alter what you were going to do. Just submit it in the CG section if you think it's too heavily edited to count as non-computer.

BTW people, do check out the contest threads in the Art and Design forums. I'm adding all the entries as they come in, but since I'm editing the threads, rather than multiple-posting, it may look at first glance as though nothing's happening.

Just a reminder that we're half way through August and the deadline is the end of the month.

We've had some some wonderful submissions but the more we have the better, and some categories are still very short of entries. We especially need more entries in the banners, tags and wallpaper CG sections and in the writing section. If anyone has been considering submitting something, do please enter. It would be a shame if anyone ended up winning by default.

We are still desperately short of banners, tags, wallpapers and, especially, writing entries. I know we have some brilliant writers in our midst. If you have any poems or short stories, do please submit them.
