ANyone know any good Anti-viral freeware out there? For I has not the monies for to pay for it. I was looking at AVG's free version, but I figured I'd ask around, and since you guys are the only people I give a hoot about, let's start there.

I am very good at killing machines with virus's and such so when I got my computer someone told me about this program called AVG antivirus. It works really well cause I have had my computer 2 years and not had any problems with virus's.

I nwas thinking about that, but as I said, I wanted to get some opinions. I've used it before, and like you had no problems, but it was a while ago, and didn't know if something better came out.

Yeah that's the only thing I know about. When it comes to computers I'm not an abundant source of knowlege. I have less than 5 years of computer experience so most things a 6 year old can do I still have to have people explain to me over and over.

that's me, and electronics in general. SOmewhere I can hear somebody screaming at me, because I just compared a computer to a stereo.

HAHA! Yeah I got an MP3 player for my birthday in October. The whole time I had it I successfully downloaded and placed 8 songs on it that sounded like someone recorded off the radio with their tape player. It was a proud time for me and I loved my little pink MP3 player. Three weeks ago I attempted to turn it on and nothing happened. I changed the battery but it was no use... it was dead.
And... so I go get a cell phone a week ago... of coarse I have no idea how to get pictures, ringtones, wallpapers or use the web thingy on it. half the buttons already have stopped working and it freazes. It's been dropped maybe 50 times if not more. and this text messaging stuff is the shit!
My Saturday nights are so loaded...

Oh yeah. the only thing I can figure out, is how to get online, and type. also finding porn. which is why I need virus protection. hehe

Yeah... that porn is nasty stuff. I'm pretty sure that's how I killed my first computer.

yeah. porn is evil. but very tasty.

Yes especially when you've had a date gone sour. Makes everything better.
Or when you have a boyfriend that is doing the whole waiting for marriage thing >_<

a boyfriend with that silly idea? what's wrong with him?

Nah I think it's an honorable thing. Take's a-lot of willpower IMO. Not that we've not come close to messing up and crossing the line. There deffinitly is a sexual attraction but if it's not the right time then it does not matter the reason why. I wouldn't want to pressure him into doing something he is not ready for. We've been friends for a very long time before getting together so if we were to not work out I wouldn't want to do anything to harm the friendship either.
But anyways... I think we are killing the point of this topic as well at the relationship one.

yes, well sometimes topics need to ramble. For those poor bastards who missed it. Free anti-virus. any ideas?

I would strongly recommend Spybot Search and Destroy. It works better than anything else, for me.

does it also protect? I thought it just found them.

It doesn't protect in advance/constantly, but inasmuch as you can run it every day and catch problems quickly it does. For prevention I just use Norton, which overrules me when I try to open a virus, but it also came with my computer.

I also use Spybot. They constantly have upgrades to their system so you know you're always protected. And if it can't, for some reason, delete something, it gives you the location and you can do what you want from there.

I would also reccomend this, too. It's probably the best that's free.
Thanks,

I pretty much killed two computers already with virus problems. This current one is running pretty damn good. I've yet to have a serious virus problem. I'm using a software that comes with my internet service that's working wonders.
Anyways some I can think of are:
Ad-aware stops them stupid ads from popping up. The new Firefox (3.0) actually is a good thing to use when surfing the web, it also helps block and warn you when a virus is around the corner. AVG if you're willing to pay for the full version.
McAffe [sp?] is another virus software that I believe is free, so check that one out.
Anyways I hope I was of help.
Also forgot spybot search and destroy, I used it on my old computer, but it didn't save it because the virus had actually taken so much control. lol sad. :(
I really don't care for Nortan Antivirus; I always thought their software sucked, but if you're willing to pay for it, go for it then.

AVG's the best one I've seen... I used Norton before that, but I didn't want to have to pay for antivirus updates.

yeah, my biggest problem is, I don't use credit cards, so paying for, and buying things is rough, So I'll stick to free. I fully intend on using Firefox here soon.

They make pre-paid credit cards you can get at most drug stores and grocery stores. I use that anytime I have to get something off the internet. Learned the hard way to never use my debit card online.

I may have to look into one of those, if Piggie ever makes more money than he spends. I'm good at not going into debt, but bad at just staying broke.

lulz.
AVG is alright, Avast! isn't bad either. As for a firewall, I'd recommend COMODO firewall. It works well for me

I had a virus paralyze my computer for days, and tried Spybot, Spyware Doctor, Norton, and AVG and did full system scans with all of them and none fixed it, until a tiny (437kb) .exe file called FixIEDef fixed the problem in a bit less than 45 seconds. So while it won't fix all problems, I recommend having it just in case.
